As a Blues fan, I'd like to get the Pietrangelo deal done and not think about it anymore, but I'm pretty comfortable that the risk of an offer sheet is low. The fact of the matter is that a team would have to offer a huge contract (say $9 million/year) for the Blues to not match............so you would be taking on a monster contract AND giving up all those picks. I don't care how much I like Petro and how good we think he can be, that is a pretty big dis-incentive for a rival GM. Pietrangelo wasn't great last season, so it's not like you can justify giving up all of that by saying "I'm getting a guy that will be in Norris contention every year for the next 10+ years." Maybe, and in fact probably, but he would have a ton of pressure on him trying to live up to that contract. He wasn't great for the Blues last season, mainly because he constantly tried to do too much, exactly what he might do if he had to live up to a monster contract. I don't know.......if I'm a GM, I probably don't have the balls to give a $9 million offer sheet to a player not names Stamkos, Tavares, etc......
