What's the cutoff for Blues fans regarding Stewarts salary?

$4.5M or less?

- kingcong39

Depends on length of the deal.

Have you heard of Darcy Regier?
- Dwight K. Schrute

Doesn't matter who the other GM is, it's the hand of cards each team is dealt. Blues can afford to sit tight. Sabre's can't. It's trade him before the deadline or lose him for nothing. Blues are the only team reasonably expected to be a contending looking for an upgrade in goal. Doubtful any other GM is going to give up big pieces for a rental just trying to make the playoffs.

oh I get it. Under your logic, the Hawks are not Stanley Cup champions because that was last season. It's ok to be excited about your team with all the young talent you have, but to just throw out the fact that TO made the playoffs last season is a little ridiculous. You know as well as anyone, if Edmonton made the playoffs you would still call them a playoff team.
- Dwight K. Schrute

You are 100% correct, but Toronto fans just...say it differently. Next to Vancouver, T.O. fans are just so annoying. Come to think of it, aren't those two teams high on the list of the worst performing franchises in professional sports history?

That was the reality of last season, but last season means jack sh1t in regards to next season which is what matters now that last season is over. The reality for next season is Toronto is seriously in tough to make the playoffs, Edmonton has just as much of a chance as TO of making the playoffs next year. If you look at the divisions/conferences and new playoff format it's pretty plain to see to the educated person
- massa_3

Yeah, but now it's up to Toronto to keep their spot. they have an idea what it takes to make it. Hate to say it but last year the one thing that was evident was that Oilers had no idea what it takes to make the playoff's, as evident by that monumental slide to close out the season. That knowledge goes a long way. Even if Leaf fans think they are a lock to make it again, I garauntee the Leafs think otherwise, and are prepared to do what it takes. Are the Oilers?

Darcy is not afraid to lose guys for nothing. When he plays chicken with the other team he is prepared to keep what he has. We don't need to deal Miller right now. We are not over or in cap jail and 1 injury to a contender and his stock will fly. I'm not saying that Darcy is the master of all, but what I am saying is that Darcy sticks to what he wants (too much in the eyes of some fans) until he gets the return he wants (ie Gaustad for a 1st).

I think the Blues will be happy with this trade in the long run. Every offseason has a new frame around it. This summer, for the Blues, that frame is the Pietrangelo contract that is an absolute must-do for the Blues. We've all heard the cliche, "you've got to give to get." In this case, Armstrong knows that he has to give away salary in order to keep Alex Pietrangelo. And that's the right move. Great teams' success frequently hinges on their top defensive pairing, even if they have a high powered offense. In the grand scheme of things, Perron is unquestioningly disposable if the first pairing defense is at stake.

Besides that, the actual return is pretty good. As noted in the blog, the Blues have players ready to step up into bigger roles, and Paajarvi minds the gap respectably. Plus, second round picks are good picks to have, particularly at the trade deadline. When the Blues are gearing up for the stretch run into the playoffs, Armstrong has a pretty valuable asset in that pick to offer to teams dumping good players as they plan to rebuild with good draft picks.

I like this deal because its good for both teams, and I think its very good for the blues for a couple of reasons. Again, after signing Roy on a no-risk one-year deal, and turning Perron into a Pietrangelo contract plus solid assets, I think Armstong has had a very respectable offseason thus far.

My point was being a playoff team last year doesn't make you a playoff team for the coming year. Just like being a non playoff team doesn't make you a non playoff team next year. I think both teams have an equal chance to make the playoffs. And to the point (don't think you made it to be fair) that Edmonton doesn't know how to make the playoffs, that's why proven winners like Ference are brought in to help

At least you have players who want to learn to make the playoffs. We have guys who have been there but are too lazy to do the work. For example Drew Stafford.

While that may be true, you guys I think have amazing prospect depth from the last few drafts. It may take a while but things will look up for you soon. From an outsiders perspective it seems like there are a few players on you team that may need to leave (addition by subtraction) for you to be successful (stafford, maybe miller). Rolston deserves a chance at coach but I get the feeling both he and regeir may not be around when the team really starts to compete.... Something tells me most sabres fans would be ok with that lol

MY Take

Who came out ahead in the trade? EDM

What's Stewart worth? 4m for 4yr or 4.5 for 3yr

Should the Blues bring in Miller or stand pat in net? Miller

this trade was about waking up the core and making money available for the next move.

The fire Darcy thing around here is over the top. I want him gone just to shut people up. I see Rolston as a guy who can teach these kids the game but I think when it comes time to be a contender, we will need a change to a veteran coach who can lead these guys to the promsed land.

Are you comparing a non-playoff team to a playoff team?
- Dwight K. Schrute

Yes he was. Sorry bud. Edmonton Fans are some of the stupidest fans on the Internet. Don't try arguing with them either. You seriously can't teach that type of stupid. Oliers Fans south of Red Deer are fine but in Edmonton and especially closer to the Fort Mac Area....Yeh they should actually do a documentary on it. It an indescribable type of stupid.

If you don't believe me try reading RC's blogs. If you make it through that, and want a real challenge, try the Comment sections. Just make sure you have some one close by to turn of the computer if you start banning your head against the wall.

Anyways, Enjoy PRV over there. He wasn't ever really given a role here so I can't wait to see how he does on a team that actually has a system and decent management. I think you got a great player and I happy for him to be on a good team.

I really wish you would have grabbed his buddy Lander too. The were best friend back home and I think he might be a little lost because PVR is gone.

And thanks for the somewhat intelligent blog and comments. I'm really not use to seeing that. Guess I read too many Oilers blogs.

You do know you are replying to a sabres fan and not a blues fan.... But what would I know I'm an oilers fan north of red deer. Lumping all oilers fans north of red deer into the sh1t fan pile is unfair and untrue. I expect that kind of comment from another teams trollers but not from someone claimin to be an oilers fan

It's OK Bud. Just stay north of Red Deer. We don't want that type of stupid to get down here.

The initial comment was from that creepy Nuge guy, or an Oiler fan, the second was from a Buffalo reminding him that TO made the play-off last year, and I mentioned some blues stuff because it is after all...a Blues Blog.

Lol it's hilarious that you call me stupid, If we actually compared education and backgrounds I'm pretty sure you would equate to a high school drop out compared to me. But rest assured I have no intention of moving anywhere soon, the money is too good here (and I don't work in fort Mac so don't even go there). You quote a comment from a sabres fan and without a proper change or transition to the person(s) you were comment to and when I call you on it you resort to petty comebacks.

I did drop out. I also got kicked out twice. But Oddly enough i still have a few pieces of paper that say I'm qualified to do some pretty incredible things. I quite happy with it.

Yes I quoted a Sabers fan because it was in response to a...thats right ...Sabers fan. He was questioning and Edmonton fans, choice in calling TO a non play-off team.

I hope I wrote that simple enough for you. If not maybe you can get someone to explain it using drawings and pictures. Edmonton does have a huge art culture. Should be no problem finding someone whom can draw.

Great deal for the blues. MP needed a change of scenery and the likely 29th-34th overall pick next year is great to keep the prospects stocked. Perron will take some bad penalties to help that pick stay early
- 10in_soft

So the Oilers either go to the finals or finish bottom 3.
