I'd keep Gunnar. Even on one hip he was one of our better d-men. The guy is still young, and I think we tend to take his production for granted.

So go with a d of Phaneuf, Franson, Gardiner, Gunner, Fraser.........

the one guy that needs to go is Liles not Gunner.......

- mykokes

I think everybody agrees with this... problem is they might not have a choice.

They can't afford Gunnar if he gets an Arb award, cause it will likely be $3M+. When you consider his minutes and perceived value to the team, there's a strong argument for that.

they've had him on the cheap for a long time.

With tight cap, you need a guy who's reliable, can play anywhere, with a cap hit ofr $2.5M or less.

Seems he's just looking for term. 3-4 yrs @ $2.5M is good security for him and a very manageable or moveable number long term.

If I were making a list of girls I wanted to pound into oblivion, Upton would definetly be #1.

For the last few years, it has been Scarlett Johansson for me.

Lately though, I have been looking at older Christina Aguillera stuff.

If you can watch the "Not Myself Tonight" video of hers, and NOT get a double-sizer going... you aren't male.

She is a smorgasbord. Even when she heiffer'd-up she was still hot.

could be wrong but i thought i read it was one where he could provide list of 10 teams he won't go to
- dragus84

ya that's been what a lot of Leafs have gotten lately. And 10 teams sounds like a lot, but 5 or 6 of those likely wouldn't be in the running anyway due to budget's.

So not that limiting to the team. The cap hit is much more of a deterrent than a modified NTC.

@markhmasters: Clarkson hasn't decided what number to wear but he says it won't be 17; 'I could never live up to that'

as much as i don't like the length of the contract and think maybe people are overvaluing clarkson a bit.

i do think he is a class act, and a great character guy for this team and i love that he is a leafer at heart

We're talking about getting under the cap. You can't start the season over it. They are going to have to let someone go for sure.
- aminnes

Why? They have enough room.

Would I have liked to get him for less money and term... of course. But that's what it cost.

He left money on the table to come to the Leafs, and he's exactly what they needed.

I'd be way more upset if he had signed the same deal somewhere else because Nonis wouldn't go to 7 year, when he wanted to come to the Leafs.

He doesn't need to score 30, though he might playing with Kadri.

Off topic.... but i havent bought a Leafs jersey in over 10 years. I think this year its time for an updated jersey. Im curious what the general consensus is with leafs fans, is the third jersey the way to go? I like the stylized Maple Leaf on it and the team seemed to wear those in the playoffs.
So whats everyones favorite jersey?

ya... i'd be very happy if he was 22-25 goal range plus bringing all the other aspects of his game.

I got myself a lupul third jersey just in time for playoffs last year

my gilmour jersey is a classic but man is ever old and way too small for me...

and given the minutes he's going to get, and PP time, that's certainly attainable.

Guy just lives for crashing the net, and assuming Lupul doesn't shoot over 25% again there should be plenty of rebounds for him to pounce on

pretty sure I'm gonna have to get a Clarkson. Might have to ask for it for xmas from the missus

she's good like that. Actually there's a fair chance she'd do that without me asking, assuming I drop at least one hint.

maybe JVR will continue to grow and learn how to be a better big body presence with Clarkson around showing him how to lay it on the line

also a strong possibility.

I'm just assuming they'll balance the attack and go with:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson

likely that's the 2 PP units as well. Need a net presence on each line, so putting Lupul and Kessel on 1 and JVR and Clarkson on 2 isn't the best use of each player IMO.

we'll see though.

not necessarily loving the 4 stripes on the arms, but that's the crest I like. So it's either that one or the white 3rd jersey for me.

though I have a feeling this will be the "3rd jersey" next season, and going forward.

Wonder why Franson did not file for salary arbitration.

meh. says mondified. No details yet, but I would imagine it isn't very limiting. Pretty much everybody gets some kind of NTC nowadays.

Just so they can veto a trade to Winnipeg essentially.

- Big_Lightnin

A no trade to Winnipeg is pretty standard I would think.
Outside of that....he shouln't have any type of NTC....he simply hasnt earned it.
F'n nonis.
Im sick of him already.

the numbers they are talking are probably to his liking, just still working it out for fit.

and I assume you meant "did not" file?

Franson does some things well, he really does - but playing in his own zone is not one of them. Hopefully he can improve.

He should be the #1 shooter on the PP though. He's so much better than DP at getting his shots through to the net.

- The Law

ya when was the last time Franson hurt one of his team mate with his shot.

Would be nice to see Phaneuf try to hit the net more often or is he going for the deflection.
