Interesting way of looking at it - Vukota
Chances are if they slid the contract and he played full seasons this year and next, there likely would have been a marked improvement in his play, and consequently more negotiating leverage for he and his agent. This way, he plays one full pro season, will still be an RFA, and can get re-signed to a more manageable contract.
May not be a common practice, but it's kinda savvy. |

Probably so that when they aim to re-sign him after this season, which will be his first real one playing pro, he'll come at a significantly cheaper price than he would have if he had two full NHL seasons under his belt. - eichiefs9
Wow. Nice way to find a strange silver lining. You've been an Islander fan for too long. |

If it's reality? Business practices like these would have players lining up to play for us. Keep up the good work Snow. Everyone likes a schister. Especially Loooong Islanweders. It's amazing some of the shat that gets respect on this thread. |

I'm not sure there's much of a dark cloud in the first place to even warrant a silver lining. Maybe it was just part of the deal to get Lee to leave college and not do the loophole thing. Who knows? I'd guess Lee got some money he wouldn't have otherwise gotten if they'd rolled the contract over, and as Chief noted, maybe the Isles are in a favorable negotiating position when it's time to renew. Sounds like a win/win to me. |

When referring to this particular thing or in general? If you're referring to in general then... |

Well considering you can only slide years of an ELC, they won't have much of a choice |

To the Lee/contract thing. In general the Islanders are like Florida weather...clear and sunny one minute; torrential downpour the next. |

Yeah, when it comes to players who come up through the draft. Correct. Only a matter of time till the rest of the OHL, and AHL players and they're agents realize where they can make money and where they'll get the shaft. The rest of the NHL already figured it out hence why we are considered a premier destination for FA's. Come here and get swindled. |

"Hey, Anders, thanks for the two points. Here's a sh!t-ton of money!" - eichiefs9

In retrospect, yeah. To get screwed at a later contract? I honestly don't think that's the intent but to call it a good business model is stupid. Just ask any player. If they see something in the kid then play it out. Stupid debate to begin with bcs if there were ever speculation this would be it. - Cptmjl
He just got paid a million dollars to play two facking games!! Stop it |

Jokes aside, I can't really think of any other reason they wouldn't have slid this year? Can you? I'm being genuine, I haven't the slightest inkling of another reason to do that. |

Staple's article made it seem like he has to prove something this year to them in either the AHL or the NHL. Maybe they are not as high on him as originally thought? I can't see that being the case but you never know |

you're missing the original point or "theory". I don't need to stop anything, that's what I'm commenting on. Chief created an idea that the thought process was to get a cheaper contract after his ELC once it's over. If the kid earns it then give him what he deserves. Again, doubt this is the case was probably just more stupidity being twisted into something thought provoking by fans. If that's the thought process I don't think that's complimentary. Sorry, I'll disagree with you again. |

I can't off the top of my head honestly and kudos to you for coming up with that. If that's the case then they must be sold on him being something really good so they can screw him at a later date |

Garth should have traded Bailey to St. Louis for David Perron. He probably would have had to give up a pick because Perron is probably better. - kear20
You make it sound like its so easy. Parjvii upside is 5x better than Baileys. Why would The blues take him? They were looking for speed which bailey doesn't have compared to pqrvkii |
