2 LW was a need. He is already better than PRV. And i've always liked PRV a lot. Perron is better today.

3.8 for 3 years ain't so bad either.

Anytime you acquire a guy from the Blues, you're getting a good contract cause they never overpay anyone.

Sad to see MPS go. He really came on at the end of last year and I liked what I saw. His potential is still up in the air.

As for getting Perron and not Backes...I think the asking price for Backes was likely higher. Perron is also a self described health and fitness fanatic so I'm thinking he fits it with what Dallas Eakins and MacT have as a vision for the club.

But lets be serious. By the time the Oilers are ready to compete for a cup MPS will probably be very comparable to Perron.

So maybe the 2LW is full instead of the 3LW....who cares, it's apples to apples here and they oilers added salary and chucked in a pretty damn decent draft pick. I just don't see it.

I agree with this... I am disappointed we gave up on MPS....

got to give to get. the development camp might have created some positives in the eyes of management too, future might be bright for bottom 6 roles.

People talk like everyone in our top is barely 5'10''. (frank)ing montreal had guys like gallagher, gionta, desharnais, all smaller than gagner with no real power forward type (maybe Pacioretty) and they had a great season. I know our division's different but still, we needed to catch up to LA/SJS/VAN in skill and ability and not just size.

The Habs are just too small, its scary. Sure they added Parros, who sucks, but they also added Briere. They have to be the softest team in the league, easily. Oilers will be fine, this was a very good trade for them in my opinion. I think the Habs had a cinderella type season, which is made easier in a half season, and showed their true colours in the playoffs being embarrassed by the Sens.

Rishaug for all of you who don't know shot about Perron.

@TSNRyanRishaug: Like the deal for Oilers. Perron is a gamer, plays hard and has some bite, can score goals. Paajarvi was still a big question mark"

- Pilgor09

Oh (frank) who gives a poop about what Ryan Rishaug thinks. He's just a guy with a media degree that reports on stuff. He wanted Eager in the top six earlier in the year.

Perron has set a standard of being a legitimate top 6 forward. Isn't the question whether PRV will become as good as Perron?

They may be comparable in the future, but as of right now Perron is the better player by a significant margin.

- Morris

I don't know if I'd say significant, but he is the better player.

In this trade they took on salary...don't give me some BS about a future trade that may not happen.

Other teams have gotten away putting poop for talent in the top 6. I would've tried it given how great the team was last year.

MacT wanted to:

1) Not re-sign the s-hitty pending UFA's: Check. Jones stays cause he's useful on the bottom 6

2) Move Horcoff somehow: Check. Makes too much money and needed to get the old captain out of there. Still don't understand that trade by Dallas...

3) Acquire a couple veterans: Check. Ference and Gordon signed to multi- year deals

4) Change the format of the depth chart: Check: Trades Paajarvi and a 2nd fro Perron. Too many of the same players. Perron slides in as the "new Hemsky" on the 2nd line with Yakupov and Gagner (once he signs)

All he has to do is move Hemsky and has basically accomplished what he said he was going to do. I say Oilers are a playoff team next year as long as Dubnyk doesn't flop.

he's still a question mark. perron's worst seasons so far outweigh Paajarvi's best.

Pilgor now is resourcing with references to his status/opinion on things... nice... He never liked MPS- then again he said Omark would outscore Eberle...

Ya but look at the two teams man....Perron has been playing on the Blues while PRV is stuck with the Oil crew who haven't won any games since 2005. Big difference.

I think no matter what Hemsky goes for, it's got to be for a player with less than a 3.5M cap hit. I say EDM breaks near even

regardless edm has to take on salary if the team was to acquire a top 6 left winger. prv would have to be resigned probably $1.5m-$2m vs perron's salary cap hit. on hemsky's note, it may happen, may not, but edm fans has to hope mac-t is trying his best to trade him.

Have to say, MacT is doing a pretty good job so far. Hasn't made the team all that much better, but finally you guys have a GM with balls to make moves and getting rid of Horcoff was huge.

His offensive numbers are marginal at best... I sure as (frank) hope he can hit and is not injured all the time- as if that is the case we lost in the deal...

Haha you are right on with this one man....I just think PRV was a good chip and a 2nd pick is pretty valuable. I would have liked to see the Oil grab some help on D or maybe grab some size up front that can play some decent minutes. Just seems like a lateral move (although I know Perron is better at the moment) that is gonna cost them more money and a good pick as well.

Good trade! Seond might be a bit too much but rather have Perron than another prospect. Now trade Hemsky for a thirdl ine tough to play against guy and I will call this summer a success for MacT

Oh definitely I just don't think Rishaug's views hold any more weight than some posters here.
