MacT wanted to:
1) Not re-sign the s-hitty pending UFA's: Check. Jones stays cause he's useful on the bottom 6
2) Move Horcoff somehow: Check. Makes too much money and needed to get the old captain out of there. Still don't understand that trade by Dallas...
3) Acquire a couple veterans: Check. Ference and Gordon signed to multi- year deals
4) Change the format of the depth chart: Check: Trades Paajarvi and a 2nd fro Perron. Too many of the same players. Perron slides in as the "new Hemsky" on the 2nd line with Yakupov and Gagner (once he signs)
All he has to do is move Hemsky and has basically accomplished what he said he was going to do. I say Oilers are a playoff team next year as long as Dubnyk doesn't flop.

I live in the Midwest, see maybe...60 Blues games a season.
David Perron's a really skilled player -- tremendous hands, good skater, great hockey sense.
Only one problem: He's...a little soft. Not big, not physical, not good in puck battles.
That doesn't mean he isn't a Top 6 forward -- he is. He's absolutely that.
But it means that to maximize this player, finally, the Oilers really need to look at possibly overpaying for a power center, a two-way guy with size. That's the kind of guy David Perron needs to play with -- he's looked very good with David Backes before, slightly less so with Patrik Berglund.
I think it's a good trade for the Oilers, with that caveat -- at some point, and you gotta believe Craig MacTavish is well aware of this because everybody else is, you need to cash in the "Sam Gagner Chip" and get a guy in there who is 6'2, 215 pounds...and plays like it, in the middle. |

If Perron can stay healthy it's a great trade for Edm. He has good puck possession skills and is pretty slippery in the corners. Plus hes got solid hands around the net.
Perron/Gags/Yak is going to be a tough line to keep off the scoresheet |

Apparently that was the asking price for Coburn... - FLYERSROCK!
I wouldnt say the Coburn deal is dead. Clouts doesnt know whats moving. Also he seemed to think Smid may be in the middle of it.... |

I'm okay with the deal. Lateral move, but one that makes us better now. |

Yeah not bad. Perron's more or less what we hoped Paajarvi would be in terms of role and production. He's a little smaller but he's pretty average height and built well and he's a pest. Good move for our second line, bad for our third line is the way to put it. |

Let's hope the Oilers keep Perron after his contract expires in 2 years....
I know I love the trade for St-Louis, not sure that's what the Oilers needed, even if I like Perron as a player. |

Blues just made room to sign Pietro. Good for them.
Oilers just took on more CAP space and another smallish forward. Predictable. - BorjeFan4Ever
Oh no! The dreaded cap that we haven't been close to in 5 years!
He's not huge, but I like his vigour. |

PRV was the different kind of player... Perron is a smurf like the rest of the top 6...
I may eat my hat once I see the guy play with the Oil, but I don't like this deal...
Plus we helped St. Louis instead of offer sheeting Piet... |

David Perron is SIX FEET TALL!!!! What the helll is with some of you people. He has amazing hands, a fierce competitive fire within him, and he a total gamer.
I can`t stress enough what an amazing deal this is!
Wow! I`m stoked about this.
I think Pajaarvi could very well turn this deal in the Blues` favor down the road, but we have enough potential and I, for one, was sick of watching and waiting for MPS to get it going.
Just watch Perron...he already has it going.
Fantastic deal! Good job MacT |

(frank)ing PRV is god though!!!! Finally we actually improve this team.
Got rid of dead wussy weight.

Perron's skill set will fit in much better with the Oilers than it did with the Blues. Both teams should benefit. |

Its a good trade for both teams but I feel we could have gotten someone better and maybe a little bigger. Or even better, Coburn. But I like Perron |

Everyone keeps questioning the defence but really it's not all that bad.
Justin Schultz - Top 4 offensive dman that will grow up as a star with the superkids
Ladislav Smid - Solid d-man that can hold his own
Nick Schultz - Not the greatest but useful. He's a UFA in 2014
Andrew Ference - Great f-uckin pickup! He's the menace that the Oilers need back there and will be a leader. I'd start him alongside Justin on the top pairing
Jeff Petry - Tremendous upside
Oscar Klefbom - Even more upside
Then you got Belov,Potter and Larsen that just rounds it out as depth. |

I heard it was 3 2nd's and then something else. - Lahey
First it was MPS and a 2nd
Then it was a few 2nds
Then it was Coburn and B. Schenn (ha!) for MPS, Smid, and Gagner.
So basically, a valuable player or 2 for players Edmonton's been trying to move. |
|
|
|
Perron is a better player then mps yes he is small but he's got a high compete level and can score great pick up for both teams. Had to give up something to get something. |

I love how everyone is saying we got smaller and easier to play against.
Wake the (frank) up people, Perron is a competitor, PRV is a floater.
At best Prv would have put up Perrons numbers. That's in a perfect world.
Oiler fans need to stop over rating there players. Be happy this team is much better now. |
