To everyone saying "Lou's going to move a Dman!" let's think about this...
Salvador: No one's touching that contract
Volchenkov: No one's touching that contract
Zidlicky: Just signed today
Greene: Keeper
Larsson: Keeper
Harrold: Just signed, low trade value
Fayne: Trade bait
Would trading Fayne really do anything for us? He usually bothers me the least of that group. |

he just takes so many penalties. It's one thing to be weak in your own zone and be decent with the puck.. but when you take a penalty/game, you're now TWICE the liability. officially no room for a kid. Lou wasn't just blowing smoke with wanting to re-sign Zid.
Greene-Larsson
Salvador-Zidlicky
Volchenkov-Fayne
Harrold
yikes.
everyone in the bottom 4 is a liability. We only have 1 good defensive pairing.. and it has a 20 year old on it. Salvador can position himself well but that's about it. - MartysBetter88
Volchenkov, Fayne and Salvador aren't liabilities. A-tain and Bryce aren't great right now but not liabilities. I think Salvador can bounce back with a decent year with a training camp. Defensively this group is good. |

I guess Ryder gets moved to his off-wing to play with Lokti-Kovy? Elias-Zajac-Ryder is going to do "A-line-esque" work!
and wouldn't you rather Hedjuk over Jagr? Jagr could barely skate in the playoffs, it was sad to watch. - MartysBetter88
Hedjuk is terrible now. Jagr is a much better player than him. And no to moving Ryder to the left side. We have lots of options on that side. |

Corrente signs with Carolina (Another draft bust)
D'agostini signs with Pitt (Who cares)
Devils resign Janssen (WTF)
Devils sign Zid (Confused? Me too, who needs young guys to be brought in one by one and gain experience when you can throw them all in at the same time in two/three years)

Why does everybody like Jagr? First of all I have bad memories of him playing for the Penguins and Rangers so (frank) that guy. Also, did you watch him in the playoffs? He was so slow he couldn't even skate. He would just stand around and try to stick handle to get the puck anywhere. He's dead.
Although, increasing the average age of the team is a good idea. |

I'm a leaf fan, and saw the devils play in Toronto last season. Zidlicky was the most dangerous devil on the ice. I think it is a good signing. |

But, how else will Jagr match Asham, with playing on every team in the late-Atlantic division? Sign him then trade him to the isles at the deadline
I would prefer Morrow if anyone else were to come in though |

He would have an ok game every now and then, but it does not make up for how bad he is the rest of the time |

This is true but was right there was game or to where things were looking real gloomy and all of a sudden he just wheels the blue line with a little fake throws a shot on net and just roofs it and I think he did it against the leafs |

“He’s a puck-moving defenseman and he fit in very well,” he said. “Right now, our defense is solid with veterans and we still have the opportunity for a young player and we still have a chance of making another move if necessary.” After trading defensemaen Henrik Tallinder to Buffalo in Sunday’s trade, he said the move was to open up a roster spot for a young defenseman. With Zidlicky re-signed, however, the Devils now have seven defensemen under contract for 2013-14: Zidlicky, Andy Greene, Adam Larsson, Bryce Salvador, Anton Volchenkov, Mark Fayne and Peter Harrold. Lamoriello said that doesn’t change the plan to give a young defenseman a chance and strongly hinted that he will be trying to move another defenseman before the season starts. - See more at: http://blogs.northjersey....eice#sthash.7OrtE2r3.dpuf
feel a lil bit better, bout the young guy |

I think you guys need to watch some of the less defensive-oriented teams play more often, no offense. This defense is not a bad group at all in terms of overall breakdowns and individual breakdowns. Yeah they make the occasional mistake and yeah Volchenkov gets beat wide once in awhile but all defensemen occasionally make mistakes. I think the occasional error gets highlighted more because the goaltending was so erratic the last two years. Hopefully that issue has been corrected. It's not like we trap either. It's not the most aggressive system in the world but it's certainly not passive and the Devils' D pinch more than most teams do. Yet we give up very few shots and not many real good scoring chances. That has to count for something. |

This has to mean Fayne is on the way out. That way they can integrate at least one of the young guys regularly and Harrold can fill in as the 7th d-man. If PDB uses any of the young guys over Harrold. Strikes me as an "if" given the track record the last two years.
It's not ideally how I want it because I think Fayne is good. But if they can get more offensive flow from back there without sacrificing defense I guess you have to do it. If they can find someone to take Volch and have him waive his no-trade I would not be opposed to it. I think Volchenkov is better than people give him credit for, but he is also not the dominant force he was for Ottawa. I'm not concerned so much from a defensive standpoint as an offensive one. It would be nice to generate more from back there and we have some young guys with some potential to do that. |

we need to make a good move and get something back though, like a pick not some 7th rounder

It's somewhat unfortunate, because both Fayne and Volchenkov were pretty damn good last year. Volchenkov with the PK and Fayne being one of our most consistant Dmen |

I thought last year was a downer for Fayne, but if he rebounds which I definitely think is plausible if not probable, it would go a long way to solidifying the D. |

The goaltending certainly didn't help, and neither could the fact that we couldn't get a two goal lead pretty much all season. Hopefully a little more confidence in the goaltending will help some dmen not handle the puck like a live grenade. I also think that having Dmen in and out of the lineup didn't help with confidence either. |
