Anybody ever come across a clip of the Bob Clarke "Restraint of Trade" interview?...I'd love to watch that again.

Lindros was pretty clearly a HOF level player, but I can understand why the committee members are not tripping over themselves to put him in. Time heals those wounds. Since Lindros is now on the periphery, in what seems to be a positive way, a few more years will likely change the perception.

Was Smallwood in town when Lindros was playing? Hard to imagine he could have watched him play, and yet somehow miss it entirely...

Good stuff on Shero.

Does anyone know at this moment how much the Flyers have under the "10% off-season cap". I know Prongers and Wellwoods contracts counts, as do a few guys in the AHL. I think the main reason Gagne isn't signed right now is because they dont have the room under the 10%. Just waiting to move Meszaros IMO.

we have around $4.5 mil left in the offseason cap cushion.

Ovi gets to play in an era when he can't be hooked and grabbed all game long. Or have someone take blatant head shots at him.

Having said that...Lindros was more skilled, more physical and a better teammate than OVi all day long. LeClair should thank Lindros for his career even existing.

- djamon

C'mon. LeClair evolves into and ALL Star Winger with any good center in the league. He was on the verge of breaking out with Montreal before he was traded. He was an animal in the finals that season.

It's ridiculous that Lindros is not in the Hall of Fame. From 1993 to 1999 he was simply the most dominant player in the sport.

If the Flyers had at the time a true #1 defenseman (sorry, Desjardins was good, but a not a #1), and a top flight goalie, they would have certainly won a cup during that era.

At his peak, he averaged over 1.25 points per game in an era where on-ice mugging was basically legal. If he had played with today's obstruction rules in place, he could have easily put up 55 goals and 130 points. Heck even in the Winter Classic Alumni game he still looked better than some players who are currently in the league today.

With all due respect, if Cam Neely is a hall of famer, than Eric Lindros is too!!

- BiggE

Okay, alright, let's not get carried away. Did Lindros look good in the alumni game or was it just good to see him? It was a meaningless no contact game where he didn't even score in. There were no special teams. Everyone be patient, he'll get in.

Lindros got robbed.

Surprised to see Straka so low, I guess I over hyped him in my own mind.

Can Cousins play in the AHL next year?

He's been in Philly since the early '90s. He just doesn't watch hockey. He's rarely going to write a hockey column. They leave that to Phil Sheridan and Rich Hoffman.

When people really look at Eric's numbers and play on the ice, it's impossible, LITERALLY, to try and oppose his entrance into the HoF... I mean really, put the crap aside, and just look at his on-ice stuff and it's literally alien-like..

And for the post comparing Ovechkin to Lindros... The ONLY thing to two have in common is skill level, very comparable. Lindros was MUCH bigger than OV, played MUCH more physical, and was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more intimidating than OV. OV is listed at 6'2'' and about 230, when he is closer to 6'1.5 and 220-225... Eric was a legit 6'4'' and 240 minimum.

For those who watch TSN up here in Canada, all you have to do is listen to Ray Ferraro or Mike Johnson talk about playing Eric in the 90s, they praise him as THE player of that generation and the most dominating player to play against, literally. In an article written in the Sun, Farraro had this to say:

“I remember him as the most dominating player of our generation,” said Ray Ferraro, the hockey commentator, who played more than 10 years against Lindros in the NHL. “When he was at his peak, he was unstoppable.

“You hear people talk about the Legion of Doom line. You could not stop them. It wasn’t the Legion of Doom. Believe me, it wasn’t Mikael Renberg or John LeClair. It was Eric. You couldn’t stop him."

Montreal was playing him at center, too. He was a madman with the OT goals in those playoffs.

I think so. He'll be 20 before camp. He's a '93.

He was good in the Finals...but still only had 10 points in 20 Playoff games that year. That was basically his ppg average at that time, in a very good scoring era. I know Montreal was getting seriously fed up with his play. In any era you don't trade a power forward on the verge of breaking out, unless you don't think he's going to.

Just look at his career numbers from before and after the trade...the change was startling and immediate.

Leclair was not a good skater or a good puck possession player but was big and strong and willing to take ridiculous abuse in front of the net and had one of the best slapshots in history. Lindros had the skills to carry the puck and dish it to LeClair amongst other things.

Ya watch out for Nichushkin he's actually taller than Ovechkin and skates like beast as well. Once he fills out to Ovechkin weight, he'll be a similar type of player with his size combined with skating. But he'll have consistency problems
- JAKEw1234

Obviously I didn't know weather the Flyers would have taken Nichushkin but I was so disappointed when he was drafted the pick before us. I only saw clips and read about him but I loved what I saw/read.

Probably Andrej Meszaros. They have about 9 d-men on the roster, so they are probably going to part with the most brittle of those (Mez) for some practice pucks and some spare net twine.

I'm beginning to think the Flyers might need to give up a pick to get rid of Meszaros. Carolina had to give up Alt to get rid of Boucher last year and his cap hit is a fraction of Meszaros's. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm sure there are burners in the fire. One possibility is to stay quiet and just dump Mezaros for as much return as we can get. Possibly retain some of his salary/cap hit for a better return. Another is a large blockbuster trade moving some of our youth for an up and coming D-man. And lastly there is talk Read might go in a package with Mezaros.
I think that they are waiting for FA to cool down so Mez is more attractive and to let him get a clean bill of health.
I don't think we are done, but you never know. They could be waiting for training camp for all we know.
