I don't know whether Coburn would be better on a pair with Streit, or with Kimmo. It seems like Streit would be the most logical, as he could just focus on his defensive game and Streit could just focus on his offensive game. But at the same time, Schenn is probably the best dman on the team as far as actual defense goes, and he could be a better match for the not so defensively sound Streit.
- JAKEw1234

at least with a full preseason, not to mention regular slate, there is time to figure things like that out. last year, you couldnt really afford to test things out. a slow start trying to gel was nearly impossible to recover from with the condensed schedule.

haha i would personally recommend a kimmo/streit paring against the crosby line, but thats just me

I think the defense core, along with the goaltending can be a pleasant surprise. Grossmann is a legit concern, he had some severe concussions last year that caused vision and balance issues. Holmgren said he expects him to be ready for camp, but I have my doubts. He also has knees that are being held together by spit and glue.
- PLindbergh31

Grossmann was cleared to play back in June, so I don't think there's a real concern with him being ready for camp. There's more of a concern of him getting concussed again.

Probably, but doesn't really matter. Lauridsen is waiver exempt because of service time any how.

Just means he gets a bit more money playing for the Phantoms if it's a one way deal

Stevens took a pretty good beating on more than one occasion if I remember right.
- Doc_Sarcasm

The first fight they had, Lindros took him down handily. Dornhoefer interviewed Stevens before the next meeting, and asked if he was going to look for a rematch. Stevens chuckled and said, "Nah, he proved himself to me."

Those two had some serious back-and-forths during many shifts, let alone entire games.

Grossmann has already been declared healthy and ready to play. So I don't know why you have doubts about Grossmann being ready for camp.

What's your personal list of 8 teams from each conference that make it?
- JAKEw1234

id be lying if i said i had a solid 8 in my mind already, even if i did im sure it would change repeatedly between now and then. not to state the obvious too much, but with so much talent around i think it will largely be decided by which teams can avoid the injury bug and stay consistently healthy.

not to sound like im putting down other teams, but i do think there may be some changes from last year. i know they had a good record last year, but right now montreal doesnt really scare me as they are constructed. some good young pieces, but i could see them falling out. eventually detroit has to slow down, but theyve been proving people wrong for years. i thought last year was the year, but they made me eat crow. i wont bet against them until i see it. i think the isles may be staking their claim to being regular contenders for the post season. the devils are another team you are typically not wise to bet against, but their roster doesnt wow me either. i think ottawa takes a step forwar this year as well. love the ryan move, and i dont think theyll miss alfie on the ice as much as some would think

Let me rephrase. I'm sure he will be ready for camp, I'm concerned about his ability to stay healthy. He's been here for parts of two seasons and has had significant injuries.

Schenn and Streit has the potential to be a disaster. Schenn likes to hit, and can get caught out of position when he tries to lay a hit. Coburn is the ideal partner for Streit, because he is responsible defensively and he's also the most mobile of the "defensive" defensemen, so he can recover more quickly than Schenn or Grossmann is Streit gets caught.

I'd go:

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Coburn
Grossmann-Gustafsson

To me, that gives you the most logical pairs, gives a good puck mover on each, and a solid stay at home guy. It also gives at least one guy with good mobility on each pair.

Wasn't Stevens like 6'0" 210 pounds? He did a lot of damage for a guy who wasn't overly big.

Who would you choose between Jagr or Gags for this team next year if they can at the same yrs/cap hit (I know that isn't realistic)?

I think Reece Willcox is going to be a keeper. Everything I have seen or read about him is highly encouraging.

Agreed. Those pairings make the most sense. Good balance of offense/stay at home type mix.

Other then the concussion, he hasn't had any other significant injuries here. Players can recover from concussions. Let's think positive.

Very interesting to hear you say that as you were a proponent of another RW to play with G.
