I understand that Many people disagree with me but three things really strike me as odd about the suggested lineup.
1) After what we saw in the playoffs, how can Therrien justify keeping Galchenyuk as a third line winger?
2) Eller's contract year means Bergevin has to decide between him and Plekanec sooner rather than later as the team's 2nd centre. I'd look for Eller to get that chance this season so that Bergevin knows what to offer, and at what price to get him traded.
3) Knowing of Briere's past helping young talent (see Giroux, Claude) I don't know why Therrien wouldn't try the newest Hab along side Galchenyuk.
My last suggestion was shot down by just about everyone, so what do you guys think of this to start the season (plus it send a clear message to Desharnais to get his ass in gear):
Pacioretty-Plekanec-Gionta
Galchenyuk-Eller-Briere
Bourque-Desharnais-Gallagher
Prust-White-Parros
Moen
As for point about D, I still suggest Betgevin should look into Fistric. - kev1586
The lineup I like and have seen a few similar (like yours):
Pacs-Pleks-Briere
Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
Bourque-Desharnais-Gio
Prust-White-Parros |

I really doubt Briere will be used with plek.
Therrien will shield the Off players by starting them in the O-Zone while giving D-zone faceoffs to Plek''s line. Unless Gio is traded, he's playing with Plek. He's one of the few wingers that's good when starting in the D-zone |

I think that could potentially be a pretty good line on the nights Penner shows up to play. |

I think Penner would do great on Montreals 3rd line. I think the energy the Gs bring would do him good. Also he would be expected to play 12-15 minutes a night, and get maybe 30-40 points. He's a big body that could go in front of the net and clear up space for the other two. |

I don't think he'll cost more than DD (he made 3.25 last year). He will likely look for more terms. I don't think he's signing for less than 3 years. It's a gamble, but worth more than DD. |

getting rid of DD and adding Penner makes the team look ALOT better as long as Penner shows up from time to time. He looks pretty good in the playoffs though! |

I agree that Plek's line would see most D-zone FOs but I think at some point, you have to let the kids learn the defensive side of the game too. That article put way too much thought into those stats that he showed. |

Not really what I meant. If he doesn't duplicate last season, then you sign him cheap and don't trade Plekanec. If he shows the same play as last season, then Plekanec can be traded with a bit less worry about replacing him long term. But Bergevin has to jknow if he has a third or second line center in Eller. |

Sorry. When I read your part about "I'd look for Eller to get that chance this season so that Bergevin knows what to offer, and at what price to get him traded" I interpreted that to mean you expected Eller to get traded. |

Well I mean to offer as in how much money to offer Eller. And what asking price (on Eller's part) does MB say "ummm no" and then explore the possibility of trading him. So I guess I did suggest a trade but as a last resort. |
