Per IPB, looks like Isles might try Strome on the wing. His reaction? Wherever he's most "useful" is fine with him.....annnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddd.... this is why Niño isn't here anymore......
- dcb1

You don't think Nino would have moved positions if it meant potentially playing with Tavares and Moulson rather than Reasoner and Pandolfo? I don't know about that. The Nino situation is what it is. Management/ownership/coaching screwed up pretty bad the year he was on the Island, and the player/agent screwed up just as bad or worse in their reaction to it the following year. Plenty of blame there, imo. Strome has been handled in a clear and consistent manner by the organization, so I'm not sure if the situations are really comparable. Heck, lessons learned from the debacles with handling Nino and Bailey are probably why Strome's been handled with so much patience.

We Bouchard signed and clutterbuck. No need for boyes.
I think Nelson makes team.

Also lets not forget McDonald and Cizikas love to hit. I think we will have 4 guys in top 20 in NHL hits next year. With clutterbuck and Martin being 1,2

minus Streit; who many think was a defensive liability but you'll see what he brought to that backend. Murray, Foster, Whitney should all be contacted and one of those should step in to fill the void.

Only 9 teams allowed more goals than the Isles last year.... Awful, especially for a team who doesn't score goals at will.

- Mr.Black

The Islanders were 5th in the league in scoring last year.

I know he would have moved positions, because he would have had no choice...but doing his job with his mouth shut was highly unlikely...having it be about the name on the front of the sweater as opposed to the one on the back was equally unlikely...

Maybe. I'd wager Strome would be less rah-rah if relegated to a fourth-line role for the entire season, which would be a comparable situation. Fortunately, the Isles won't do that to Strome. He'll either get quality minutes as a scoring forward (at center or wing) or be a first liner in BPort.

I doubt they would do that with Strome. I have to admit though the fourth looks a lot better than when Nino played.

I also feel our third and fourth line is basically set so the only place he would or could play is the top two, but he makes the team though someone on those top two lines would have to go to make room for him

Just a feeling...based on no info or anything at all...but I think they'll end up trading Grabner. Just seems like there's been a reluctance to give him a top-six role even as he outscores most of the top-six forwards, and I don't think he fits well in a bottom-six role. Hopefully my gut feeling is wrong, since I think he's a unique weapon to have in the arsenal.

Yeah? I think Grabner's probably worth more in trade value, plus Bailey was a pretty important draft pick for Snow...I'm not sure how much that would factor into his willingness to move him though.

I think Bailey and Grabs would be a mistake to trade...best is yet to come from Bailey I feel, especially if they use him on the top line. Grabs is too useful on our PK to unload him for sure. I can see Nielson being moved this season....not that I want him to be..

Agree on trading Bailey and/or Grabner (I'd move Bailey for a good return, but I don't think he'd be worth the return I'd want on the market). As for Nielsen...there is plenty of potential depth at center, for sure. But I think two centers not named Tavares would have to flat out outplay Nielsen before they'd move him. He's a safe and useful player, and coaches/management seem to love him.

Ryan Strome, John Persson and Joey Diamond just did a passing drill together. Strome continues to impress, knows how to find the open man.

Bumping Donovan for deHaan would be a mistake, imo. Donovan's done everything asked of him. Not saying deHaan hasn't, but let him try to play in the AHL for a while without getting hurt. The message to Donovan would be a tough one to take...the guy was passed over last season and buried under a bunch of waiver signings, and rather than sulk or demand a trade, he elevated his game even more and led AHL d-men in scoring while leading the Sound Tigers in +/-. Not sure what else the guy has to do to at least earn a long look.
