if you get freshly bought out gilbert to a cheap contract at say 4M over 2 years(2M AAV). You've improved your team for an absolute steal - TheNugeIsHuge
I'm not saying he isnt a good player,at all. But I think he has long displayed the best he has to offer. I think Petry is already as good as Gilbert ever was, and I would hate to not get a really good look at Belov because the coach has to make room for Gilbert. |

I think there are better options. If not better, fresher. Both Penner and Gilbert, you know what you get, mediocracy. We shoot aim a bit higher I think, even if its a miss. - Jeropotato
im not interested in recycling players from a time when we decided we were so bad and going nowhere that we tore it down and got rid of them.
I think this rebuild was as much about completely changing the culture and moving forward as it was about building a cup champion.
or more to the point; the two go hand in hand |

It's bad when bloggers speculate...it's pathetic when they make poop up. It's no wonder the respect he craves from the MSM has eluded him so far. - Jeropotato
It always will elude him. He is more of a fan than a serious blogger. Got way too mad for no reason during the draft. Too much wishful thinking. |

Gilbert>N Schultz.
Deal N Schultz for a 2nd.
Play Belov-Gilbert as the bottom pairing |

Yeah, I'll give you that, but I bet Minni feel the opposite. |

Being as Penner only shows up in the playoffs, you would never know he was on the Oilers. |

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe, on Twitter.
"@eklund: Marchand? Wow. That would be a shocker. interesting. RT @GlobeKPD: Also would not be surprised to see Marchand and/or Kelly traded." |

Penner is free people... If we are not doing a bold trade and not wanting to give something up then why not sign him??? give him a 1 year deal or even 2 - not the end of the world... if people were talking about turnover machine Gilbert- then Penner should get mentioned too... - saskoil21
We can't sign him as he won't sign to come here. The Penner ship has sailed and sunk. |

Smid isn't gonna score ya many goals, but will put his face in front of the puck to keep it from going in the net. Neither of those two have near as cool initials as MDZ. |

Not a fan of MDZ. Love McD, Staal, n Girardi, but don't see MDZ as a fit.
I see Petry has a good #3D man n Smid as a 3/4 tweener lean to 4.
I think MDZ can be a top pairing but'll probably be a #3 |

well the reason i ask is because someone in the rangers thread brought a trade proposal of paajarvi + petry for MDZ and i thought it was kinda ridiculous cuz i always thought petry was your #1 guy and one of the must underrated guy in the league and good enough for MDZ straight up. thought hes a better nhl player at the moment than MDZ but MDZ has more potential and a higher ceiling. but i can't remember if that's petry or smid or both? |

I don't watch enough of the Rangers to comment on MDZ with any kind of objectivity. Petry has improved leaps and bounds the last few years and think the Oilers would be foolish to trade him as his value to the team is huge right now. Smid as well is a shutdown guy the Oil need and will drop the gloves to defend a teammate and that is something that is needed with the small forwards. Maggy really improved this year, but still has no real value and is IMO a prospect who could get better or maybe just plateau. That trade is cool for the purposes of trading MDZ for MPV from an acronym standpoint. . Don't really think giving up Petry for MDZ improves the Oil though. |

we probably wouldn't trade petry straight up for mdz. let alone add prv.
petry is our number 1 guy, but that has as much to do with our lack of depth than how great he is. imo, he could be a true #2 at some point, but right now is probably closer to a 2nd pairing guy that's solid both ways.
smid is a much lesser talent, and is prob somewhere between a 4 and a 5 guy. a tough, defensive guy with little to no offensive skills, but a warrior and will do anything he can to help the team. |
