Thats all clarkson had and the oilers willing to give him that much money. Stewart is younger and is a beast.
- Snagglepuss

Well I for one and happy they didn't sign Clarkson for that much. You watch that contract is going to blow up in Leafs face

His rookie year with Colorado he had almost 30 goals and 60+ points.

hahaha this trade is funny

Hall and Eberle and prospect plus a pick for 2 guys that don't even equal hall or Eberle. WOW talk about overpayment by the Oilers. If MacT made this trade he would be run out of town.

oshie i can careless, stewart on the other hand...of the five seasons he's playing in the league, three seasons avg ppg 0.80+, other two seasons <0.40ppg. i wouldn't give up eberle straight across for stewart, but i definitely would consider paying some pretty penny for him considering the value of the big body grit, score and fight that edm lacks in the top 6.

Stewart had almost 30 goals and 60+ points a few years back. On Edmonton he would score 30 for the next 5 years .

Gagner and a 3rd for Hjalmarsson and Beech?
- 66chevelle

Would be cool to see Gagner and Kane reunited. But they would have to get Sergei Kostitsyn to complete that dominant Knights line.

He wasn't a rookie and he has only broken the 60 point mark once. He would have broken 60 last year( Lockout). 2 out of 6 season now your a $6 million man. The other 4 seasons he was a flat out bum.

I think he's a great fit there - cap could be as high as 72/75 million in a few years for all we know, which makes it easier to manage.

But yeah, the optics look risky for sure...could be a 35 point 2nd/3rd liner in year four of that bad-boy. Or worse yet, he could dip to that this year with the whole "big pay day pressure / new team" thing. Though I just don't see it with that guy.

I think right now Nonis has to be pretty happy with that deal (plus keeping Bozak low) considering the briefcase Filpula put in his trunk.

Just cause the cap is going up next year, doesn't mean you sign crazy deals. Then you get into issues like the flyers, buying players out.

How is that? The year he got traded from colorado to st Louis he had 62 games played and 53 points between the 2 teams. So I don't know how u would consider that year a bum or the year he had last year or his 60+ point season in his second year in the league.

I suppose. Sticking to a mantra of no crazy deals seems like the prudent course.
And the whole buyout thing is pretty bad for different reasons but it is an option for them in the final two years perhaps.

It wasn't bat poop crazy and I think it could still be worth it if he continues the beast mode he's on.

I think you guys over-rate players not names Hall, Yak, RNH, Ebs, and Schultz just a tad....(those shouldn't be traded

Any player you want you throw Gabs, Hemsky, MPS, and picks at a team like that is always going to get it done. Hemsky you have little leverage because teams know MacT wants to move him. MPS as far as I know is struggling quiet a bit. And Gags is good, don't get me wrong best value of those 3, but Hammer is a warrior on the back end, Hawks wouldn't give him up so easily.....

- mrhattrick27

How much is Beech worth at this point? He's looking more and more like an AHLer in the final analysis, so a 3rd is an overpay for him.

Does that discrepancy and value pave over the difference between Gagner and Hjalmarsson? Maybe not, but that's the rationale I'd bet.

What's a fair pitch here?

What abou the year in between those years? So he is just another Dustin Penner then. He just choices to play one year, then skates in circles the next. Yeah give that guy $6 million year. Cause that worked out so well for Edmonton and Penner. Well it worked out for Penner I guess.

"When MacT hired Dallas Eakins to be the new Head Coach, he more or less hired himself. Very similar type of guy. Oh, but Eakins values fitness levels perhaps more than any other coach. Think Penner wants that?"

Eakins killed someone while in car, drunk?

Link?

I would not call last year a beast mode, more like average joe mode.

You have to respect Philly for the win at all costs attitude as well.

Then, I have to hate them and the NHL a bit - the compliance buyout I get - part of adjusting to the new cba but at times I wonder why have a bloody cap if you can always fall back on varying degrees of buyouts. Makes teams like Philly get off scot free. And on your face.

Ales Hemsky basically put up the same points in less games. probably on par for points per game. He is Edmonton's whipping boy. He's not even worth $4 million a year. Total overpayment

He's not lazy like penner nobody is lol. He would be playing with a lot more offensively gifted players on edmontons first or second line then he did any where. He would be that beast we need to stand in front of the net on the pp. I would give him the 6 million IMHO .

Beech I disregarded for the most part. I just see the Hawks wanted a 2nd maybe? Not sure, I just don't see a "fit" in that trade more so than anything. Although yes, they need a #2C I just don't see it at the expense of Hammer.

And yea I was more reacting to that Staal offer one guy pitched that made my head spin . Hemsky is good, but I just don't see the Oil getting a lot for him. I'd deal him for a 2nd if possible and just move on.

thats cause your an arm chair GM that would run your team into the ground with crazy contracts. Heck give everyone $6 milllion a year cause they scored a goal once in there life.
