I guess ya, Max Gardiner isnt exactly a cant miss prospect, but Oshie a 1st and Jake Allen for one year of Vanek and the disappearing act that is Stafford seems like an over payment. But i would have never believed that Pommiville trade either so I guess anything is possible.
- DinoRondelly

Plus they are eating half of Vaneks salary and why wouldn't Vanek re-sign on such a good team. Stafford had 30 goals the year before last but is way to inconsistent. He is frustrating to watch because he has talent but it never shows up on the score sheet like it should. I don't want to trade Vanek but if were doing a full blown re-build you might as well.

Sure. It would be very smart of the Habs to give up two first round picks. Not to mention Subban will be in the exact same position next year.
- TimBits

I don't know for you but piet and subban as 1st and 2nd D sounds really awesome.

I'm sure this post will be taken down and I'll get a ban, but anyway, here goes:

The entire tenet of this post is so self-serving so as to be a joke. A blogger who posts trade rumors from anonymous sources whose credibility is, at best, shaky, is defending both the right of the PHWA and the HOF voters to remain anonymous. See, when you remain anonymous, and quote anonymous sources, you avoid accountability, be it for a stream of rumors that don't out-perform a dartboard or when you make errors in voting. Accountability is bad if you have questionable credibility or if you don't take your job as a voter seriously. Most people don't and can't hide behind anonymity when they're either terrible at their job or they are pulling one over on their consumers. Which is why posts like this get taken down and banned rather than addressed.

I read it so it must not be down, huh? Sounds like heckua is a union thug who thinks everyone's vote on all things should be public. Makes it easier to destroy their property and break their knees. What sort of brain damage does it take to think anyone's vote on any matter should be public?
Edit: Okay, maybe union thug, broken knees and brain damage were a little harsh. However, votes being public in any scenario are dumb and a bit socialistic.

Might be best to get these things out of the hands of the writers, anyway. I mean, what, exactly, are their qualifications for membership? My God, look at the NHL Network, even. Kathryn Tappen ... where on earth did they find HER??? All she ever does in a panel is smile and nod while everyone else talks, then announce a commercial break. I laughed my butt off during playoffs coverage when she (obviously reading something she knew nothing about) pronounced Petr Klima's last name as "CLIMB-A," instead of KlEEma. One of the other announcers immediately cut in to help her by gratuitously saying something about him in order to get the correct pronunciation in, then she continued ... at least she picked up on his helper and pronounced it right.

Not to pick on her (just an example of one among many), but it does illustrate that people who have no clue what they're assessing get to vote on MVP, HoF, etc. It just isn't right.

No doubt.

As I just said, until Subban is signed to an extension, it would be very risky to make an offer sheet.

Also, St-Louis will match any offers. Tom Stillman will cough up the money.

Sweet Jesus.

Vanek is UFA in a year. He is not worth Coburn, Read and Couturier.

Agreed, I hope he gets extended during the season. And i also think Blues will match anything. I actually would rather see MB trade for the rights instead of offer sheets.

Pietrangelo is an absolute rockstar. Take what the Ducks got for Ryan, then multiply that by two.

Habs don't have the assets.

Ok then Coburn and Couturier for Vanek and Kaleta. Didn't realize Vanek is a UFA after next season.

I think they do, just nothing they would be willing to give. (galchenyuk, gallagher, paccioretty...)

Not getting any better. Vanek would be another huge contract which uproots our forward depth and if he did not it would be because he left after one year. Our forward group is good already. The only reason to trade Coburn would be to get a defense prospect with higher upside. Otherwise, we could just trade Mez/ Grossmann to dump cap.

Check out your math: Top Four Defenseman+Prospect which 29 other teams would love to have= one year of an overpaid (good, but not significantly better than what we already have) player + a fourth liner. Something doesn't add up
