I get frustrated reading responses about how teams haven't done enough when it's July.

Granted, if you have a team that did not make the playoffs and you have cap space (and real money to pay for it) then you should definitely try to make the moves to be a (projected) playoff team during free agency. Usually these teams have bigger holes to fill and can do that by signing players during FA.

But...they don't call it 'silly season' for nothing.

It's not JUST the money owners and GMs spend...it's the idea that you are winning a cup in July by signing certain players.

According to the hockey analysts/experts...and many Penguins fans...the Penguins won the cup on the trade deadline day 2013.

We all know that didn't really happen.

The Penguins are a very good team with who they have now (barring injuries). And I think most people would agree, they were one of the four best teams in the league last year.

Although they aren't making more moves and trades now...it's pretty obvious to me that they will at some point before the season starts.

Shero say he wants a team that has a chance for a cup every year. That's what we have. He locked up the players that help make that happen...every year.

Hopefully we win another one soon...but you have to realize that with the way the league is today, you can't EXPECT to win one every year...and you certainly aren't going to do it in July.

You and I are on the same page regarding Marchand. Why do people think he is available to begin with? If he were traded to the pens I'd still root for an injury to him. Can't stand him

Wow I'd take him on my team.

He will score 20-30 goals a year for you, hit people and get under their skin, and he's fast. Not a terrible contract at 4.5 til 2016/17.

It's on Shero to analyze that possible acquisition and make sure he can be dressed to make the team better, this includes fitting the teams system and logical lineup spot. I do really like Shero a lot but instead of being innovative... He is kind've chasing previous success ideals/magic, it's sort of a pattern I don't like but know he can easily change it. One things for sure, he has to build and replenish the team through the draft/offseason moves from now on. Drafted players have to start contributing in order to get that cup again.... Here's to Bennett and Despres!

Whoa..hindsight certainly is crystal clear, huh? Iginla and Morrow instantly makes any team better. Murray, arguably. You guys would not have won the Cup with or without these guys, and it's certainly silly to place the onus on Shero for "(frank)ing with chemistry" when all he did is what every Gm wishes they could do. The draft/offseason has nothing to do with the deadline.
