Why can't you just understand it that Vanek is past his prime.. he is beaten up and worn down.. he will never be as good as he once was on a 3rd line against the other team's weak pairings... he is not worth that huge contract any more.

sorry to be so blunt... I ma usually a gentleman.

Past his prime? How many players his age were a PPG last year?

Besides Miller, Vanek and Stafford I think someone else gets dealt in one these deals. Who surprises us and gets dealt? My pick? McNabb

There is a new Beyond Blue and Gold up on the Sabres website, it is about the scouting combine.

Past his prime? He's 29. If anything people had inflated expectations due to his contract and success coming out of the lockout. He's certainly not bad. Just was never the 7 million dollar a year guy edmonton was willing to risk 4 firsts on.

I know right, who would have seen him train wreck so early in his career. I mean they are bringing in Tallinder to try and help this guy out. Desperate?

HE ISN'T A PPG PLAYER!!!! it was a lockout shortened season... if he would have continued at his current pace for 82 games he would not have been a PPG.

for (frank) sake.. stop grasping to the only shred of evidence that makes you think he is worth that much money..

and even those numbers are skewed because like 60% of his goals have come on the PP.. the MOST OF ANY PLAYER.

I don't get why he'd fully predict the Tallinder trade and then completely screw up the blockbuster. It doesn't make sense. Maybe their still ironing out details.

He's definitely been placed in trades by a lot of fans and he has value that other teams would want.

Good call, I wouldn't mind him being moved, but I can't imagine many other teams are turned on by his size.

The comparable players to him according to CapGeek are...

Spezza
Thornton
Semin
Marleau
Kopitar
Stamkos
Heatley
Gaborik
Koivu, M
Parise
Backstrom
Datsyuk
Kovalchuk
Richards
Stastny
Nash
Kane, P
Toews
Sedin, H
Sedin, D

how many of those guys would you honestly take Vanek over?

I would say maybe Semin, Heatley, Gaborik, Stastny.. and MAYBE Koivu.

That is not a bad thing at all. It shows that the team is taking advantage of the PP chances. Nothing wrong with scoring goals at that time.

I think there is a player in the HOF that had most of his goals on the PP.

Yes he did, he guaranteed it and he was correct. Then he comes out and gives us info on the blockbuster but is wrong about that. They have to be ironing out details or something.

31 points last season is impressive for him though...

I just don't see a future for him... we all know that Hodge and Grigo will be 1C and 2C which means Ennis goes back to Wing..... when Ennis was a winger he wasn't nearly as productive.

I just see him getting traded. WSH needs a 2C badly.

Do you mean like the 06-07 team or the 09-10 team that won the division ?
Your better off just saying Vanek could score 50 if he played with Crosby.

I could say Myers would win the Norris on a good team.

It means that he invisible at even strength which is what every game is for all but maybe 10 minutes.

I would much rather have a guy that scores his goals at even strength...
