McBain was in the dog house with Carolina for being out of shape last season. Before that he was a very solid defender for Carolina and I think had garnered ROTY talk at one point.. I could be wrong...

We trade Sekera who could play very good on international ice but not really find his touch in the US game... and his salary for a 2nd rounder and another solid DMan who is probably just as good if not better than Sekera.

We stole that trade in my mind....

Carolina also had offered McBain and 5th overall for Sekera, 8th overall, and 38th overall but we said no.

- JVince11

agreed

darcy had his eyes set on that d man for the entire draft, hence they did not want to move up to 5

he was the one player the team should have kept for a rebuild
not vanek or miller

if pommer did not have a C on his jersey, he is still here

- homiedclown

echoooo echoo echooooo....

Pommer would have been great to keep around as a 2RW to help the kids. GREAT guy to have around... he was a PKer, a PPer, and a constant 60 point scorer. Not to mention he was also VERY good in shootouts.. not as good as Vanek is but still very good.

When was Buffalo big and hard to play against?
- jzabawaj

that is their philosphy now...

Look at the size of the guys they are drafting and picking up... they want grit.. they want toughness.. they want hitting...

Ott, Girgensons, Kea, Jacobs, Tropp, Catenacci, Kaleta, Scott, Ristolanien, Zadorov, McCabe, McNabb.. etc...

Zadorov being labeled as the toughest and most physical D-Man in the draft made me drool...

I promise you this.... Girgensons and Zadorov are the next two Sabres jerseys I buy.

No one wanted to play Buffalo for those few years. That's a fact. I remember players saying that. Those teams were just relentless. Skilled? No. But, yes they were hard to play against.

I don't know about that. His play (especially defensively) had really gone downhill. His play on the point on the pp was atrocious but that's on Linday for running him out there. He is a 2nd line player on a good team.
