Exactly...and heres a thought - why not draft them!?

I think what the Flames are looking for now is nothing more than all around depth. At this stage of the Flames rebuild, any depth is good depth. If they can improve at any position without giving up too much, why not? Raymond would be an improvement over a few wingers we have, but they would have to in turn move one to fit him in.

Any centers they try to acquire would be 2nd or 3rd line guys...there arent too many moves where a #1 guy comes to Calgary without them giving up some much needed prospects/picks of their own....so no point in doing that.

Exactly! So why not sign players that will have the cap/contract & demand for next years TDL & be sellers again. At that point, we have another losing, no fun season, we will have guys like Cammi, maybe Gio, Wideman, Hudler or even GlenX wanting a trade to a contender. If we can acquire a few more future TDL candidates now, then why not eh?

Yah exactly - I think he'd thrive under the conditions here. And he's american so it fits with a segment of Weisbrods activity. His age is right - he is very skilled...

I really like the player. Concussions are the only thing that give me pause. As colin said though maybe this is a gamble worth making...

I would want to see him sign a multi year deal though, he would be worth the investment, has had a tough break, so the one year rental mentality has to grow old on him.

With Jones, O'Brien and Galiardi on the team, he would feel comfortable with some old team mates again, natural transition.

If Kipper walks, do you sign Theodore to add to the Avalanche 2008 ex roster ha

Only the good ones...Well take Stastny and then complete the movement by grabbing Stewart from the Blues and Liles from the Leafs.

Hejduk should have retired a year ago. Great player though, he always burned Calgary.
In the deceased NW division, Calgary/Colorado tilts always seemed the most fun, with all the high scoring. Too bad that 'rivalry' is over. Enjoy your cupcake division, I am thinking the Avs will be the first of the dead division group to win the cup. And at least make the playoffs this yr. Calgary? Not so much.

The Pens are going to move salary... Matt Niskanen turns the puck over more than I like but he has talent and could be had to make room for younger prospects. Also Jussi Jokinen could be had because we need grit on our 3rd line and he can't break our top 6. Though the guy I really think has some upside is Dustin Jeffrey. Solid 2 player with some skills if he could ever get out of Bylsma's doghouse.

Nothing flashy but just throwing it out there.

Despres or Maatta please?
I do like Jokinen, but after Joker, eek.

Jeffrey is exactly the type a guy the Flames should take a chance on. Upside with very little value. In 2010 I thought he was going to bust out. He looked great in about 20 games then got injured. I still say if he gets a shot on a 2nd line he will bury 20-25 a year. He's also responsible in his own end.

Maybe. If I am trading with the Pens though, I want Despres or Maatta.
Still a bit chafed neither came back in the Iggy deal.

Agreed.
Sorry Iginla was useless past the NYI series.
At least you didn't lose blue chippers.

Yea... Maybe a bit misused but I was very disappointed in seeing Iginla not being as good as I expected. Morrow too for that matter.

Well said - I listed Stewart as I feel many teams will be interesting in him and he brings a certain dynamic to a team which Feaster likes in his players (among other GMs). I do agree with most that any assets the Flames may move would be for a centre or defensive depth, but Feaster would be crazy not to call on this guy.
- Colin Dambrauskas

I agree with adding D depth. Actually, I hope Feaster abandons his quest for the mythical 1st line C acquired via UFA signing. If that's what we were after, we should've picked up Grabo off of waivers.

I suggest CGY goes and tries to sign Blum and give him a real chance. Also, sign Gilvbert for 2-3 years. This way we have some flexibility to trade either Wideman or if need be Gio to get a good young C. Philly would love Gio and we could take back some of their salary issues (and yes blind Philly fans, they exist).

Wideman, Gaudreau and a 2nd for Couts and Tmonen would free up almost $2mil for PHI. I might consider Gio in that deal instead. We could also consider Horak as a young 3rd line C for PHI to consider.

Not very high at this point but its his salary that are scaring GMs off...not many teams have a ton of cap space left who could use a guy like him.
- Colin Dambrauskas

Winnipeg might want him.

Re; Stepan. Moves to 2 1sts, a 2nd & a 3rd if you exceed the sum I listed but at the dollar value stated only 1 st a 2nd & a 3rd.

The no cap penalty buy out period for the 2013-14 season has passed so if NYR were to buy out Richards in the next buyout window it's at 2/3rds of his existing salary at twice the term & counts against the cap as such. The next buyout period no cap hit isn't until next summer now.

With Hagelin's signing this am NYR is in an even worse cap situation. If Stepan is not signed when RFA offers are allowed I'm offering him 7 years at 6.7 million per season. If NYR matches their in serious cap trouble this season & would be forced to trade a player or players for close to a combined 3.5 mil. Even if the send Powe, Asham & Kreider down they would need to bring a player or 2 up & the most obvious is Miller at 1.2 & that doesn't resolve the cap breach.

Other than Petro this is the best RFA available & at draft pick compensation of a 1st, 2nd & 3rd this is great value for a stud centre that's only 23. You get the added bonus of sticking it to Sather.
