everybody's darling will be the Columbus Blue Jackets, however, it remains to be seen if Gaborik can remain healthy. He had yet additional surgery after the season ended, and is another year older.

Nathan Horton isn't going to be ready to play for them until december after his summer surgery.

We shall see with the BJ's, sometimes high expectations become a burden, as we all know well.

Trevor Timmins is still head of the scouting department but he was never involved in trade talks as baffling as it sounds. But we've added many scouts since last year and I think we had 2 very solid draft in a row.

There was an article where he said he cried when he heard about the trade.

We're all still crying Trevor....

What kind of Gm doesn't consult his scouts before a trade? I guess a former Gm...

That's crazy that the head if scouting was not involved in a trade that dealt with dealing a few prospects away. I think Valentenko came over too if I remember right.

Yup.... Gainey was GM at the time but he excluded himself from decisions because he had just lost his daughter.

If we actually received something good/great in return, it wouldn't be the same of course....

Yea but besides those 2 guys, the majority of their team is very young and developing so them just being a year older makes them a better team. Isnt their 2nd overall pick ryan murray or whoever gonna make the team too?

Yeah, it made no sense at all....

Valentenko was in the trade as well yes, but we're not missing him as much.

I think id look at this way, hamonic is a bit meaner...mcdonagh is better defensively...niether have reached there offensive ceiling. Mcdonagh shutdown ovechkin 2 years in a row during the playoffs. Hamonic hasnt done that yet.

Mcdonagh is better but that doesn't mean hamonic is chopped liver

- Slimtj100

Yeah. They're both good and will both get better. Just different players

I don't think I ever personally prepared for a draft more than I did the 2010 NHL draft, I knew every one of those players as well as any regular fan could. And looking back on it 3 years later, it's starting to be much more underwhelming than I thought.

No, reality is hockey players are most importantly assessed by consistency. I love people who look at players that have a few good years and say they are amazing. Take a look at how many NHL players have come and gone with only a few years in the league. When Hamonic is 24-25 years old and still shows the same consistency, then yeah I'll agree with you. He was a -8 last season and produced at a lesser rate than his previous 2 years. I'm not saying he's not good, just saying you need a little more sample size with him playing Top Unit.

As opposed to McDonough's sample size? Hamonic is playing with McDonald whose play has dropped off. He's a consistent physical dman. Has been since he started. To say he shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as McDonough is homerish and short sighted. These two signings by our teams are the best signings so far this offseason IMO. They will both be great dman for years to come minus injuries of course.

Mcdonagh is still better tho

But mcd also plays with a great shutdown guy in Girardi in front of the best goalie in the world.

Boyle becomes expendable with Moore in the fold, Pyatt will probably stay with AV here. I would've liked them to go after Raymond but there's too many 3rd/4th liners now when you factor in Lindberg/Fast/Kristo as possibilities too. I'd agree with some others that MZA is probably done now, he was a nice fill-in but they have other prospects just as quick and shifty who need to get integrated now.

Listen, I'm not saying Hamonic is not good. I was just responding to the Glenn Healy should comment about McD's contract now statement from before. Healy was a little harsh, but I understood where he was coming from. Healy wasn't talking about amount of Hamonic's deal, he was talking about the length of contract to someone so young. And I get it, if Hamonic regresses, it would be a hard contract to move. But McD's contract is a little less, we signed him for 6 years not 8. I think its all about how things are viewed proportionally under the new CBA. If 8 years is the maximum allowed, there is a tier of players that should fall under that. Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Stamkos, etc... These are the players that have proved their worth for the maximum term. McDonagh hasn't even reached the point where we is getting the max year offers, but Hamonic gets it? If Hamonic continues to impress and get even better, then yes its a value deal. But Healy was comparing it to DiPietro's deal. The same was said when DiPi was signed. If DiPi became what they projected him to become, he would have been a huge bargain. But when your that young and unproven, you just don't know what will happen, and long contracts turn into handcuffs. Thats all I'm sayin.

Hamonic was signed for seven not eight and Healy is a jackass who is still harboring hatred from twenty years ago for the isles.

Factor in the fact that hamonic has been playing on a lottery team except for last year and that'll explain the plus minus.

Yea, Im thinking 4m to 4.25m for Stepan, what hurts his value - not by much - is that he has been pretty cold in the playoffs. He gets a couple here and there, but hes very inconsistent in the playoffs. If he was a bit more consistent, Id say he gets the same contract as McDonagh.

Yes, but you missed my point. Hamonic this year had regular top line duty. He posted a -8 on track for a -15 through 82 games. Thats with Tavares line scoring while he was on the ice also. He's a +2 over 3 years playing 22min avg, and against top lines for about 1/2 his career. McDonagh has played top line minutes for almost 3 years now, posting a +54 and avgs 25min ice time. Hamonic is good, McDonagh is better. At least for now.

They could've signed hamonic for a million bucks over five years and Healy would've had something negative to say. It's that obvious he has an agenda.
