Just refreshed my Cap knowledge. So the rule is, any player above 925K is marked for a cap hit in the NHL if they go to the minors, but their cap hit is 925K less than the full hit. So what I'm thinking is this:
A. Johnson will start the season in the Minors. This eliminates 600K from the hit.
Falk has never made more than 825K so it could be very possible to sign him to around the same and start him in the Minors as well. Pyatt can be waived and we would save 925K off his cap hit as well. That essentially makes the Rangers capspace right now 8.075 if they make these moves. Thats enough to sign Stepan at 4.5, Hags at 1.75-2M and Zucc at 1.35-1.5M. |

Unfortunately I think the plan is for pyatt to make the team. Hes played under each coach and has been pretty successful with them. |

My impression of Pyatt, hes a big kid, tries hard, but very weak on the puck. He's gotten the benefit of standing in the right place about 3-4 times this past season resulting in a good goal for us, but he is so weak on his skates and puck. I compare him to Boyle, but I think Boyle skates a little better and controls the puck MUCH better than Pyatt. If you give a guy like Pyatt 1.55M just because he's got a little size, I can't see how you can't give a player like Zucc 1.35M when he's one of your best playmakers. Zucc is small but he's agile and smart. Remember Prucha? We were always waiting for Prucha to get hospitalized the way he was thrown around like a rag doll. Zucc doesn't get hit because his vision is one of the best on the team. |

Please don't ever compare Travis Hamonic to Ryan McDonagh ever ever again. Not even in the same category of defensemen even though he is a top pair for YOU guys. - xcheckmajor

Yea. Pyatt is locked in I believe. If you ask me, Boyle is the most likely of the bottom feeders gone. |

They are different players it's hard to say who is better they are so different, unless you're a Ranger fan of course |

If it makes any difference, I think the Rangers could get a 2nd round pick for Boyle. Pyatt wouldn't bring back much, if anything. |

He's an amazing defenseman at 22 years of age. I'm picking McD over him now, but that could change in a year or two... |

I think it's going to be an interesting rivalry to watch over the years with Hamonic and McDonagh.
Very close in age, long term deals, both have seemingly unlimited potential.

Hamonic is a beast. Physical Dman, completely different player and style. The guy is awesome and is young and will get better. Anyone who says he's not even in the same class or should be mentioned in the same sentence has zero knowledge of the sport of hockey. |

Wonder if Hank's deal will be completed sometime soon as well. |

McD is one of the most underrated players in the league, and one of the best defenseman. I said it, I don't care. Short of Karlsson, Suter, Weber, maybe Chara, there's not many others I am picking over him.
edit; add Pietrangelo, Kronwall. maybe Subban. |

Hamonic and McDonald are an excellent shutdown pairing. |

I don't think McDonagh is top ten right now but he is close. If his offensive game improves, he can be listed with the best in the business. Kid has a lot of ability. |

you guys have seen enough of McDonagh in 14 playoff games the last two years to know just how good he is.
Torts never used him on the powerplay, only reason his offensive numbers haven't taken off yet, I expect that to change under AV |

Karlsson, Weber, Suter, Kronwall, Chara, Pietrangelo, Subban, Doughty, Letang, Keith. That's 10, but arguably. I am still taking McD over a few of these guys. |

I remember this one play where zucc got pinned to the boards with the puck and just niftly drop passed the puck behind him onto an oncoming rangers winger.
Really love zucc hope he comes back. Plus with him, nash, and hank in shootouts we're almost unstoppable which is gonna be huge in such a tight division. |

I think id look at this way, hamonic is a bit meaner...mcdonagh is better defensively...niether have reached there offensive ceiling. Mcdonagh shutdown ovechkin 2 years in a row during the playoffs. Hamonic hasnt done that yet.
Mcdonagh is better but that doesn't mean hamonic is chopped liver

On the flip side, you guys know of my opinion of Girardi.
I would also add Staal to that list if he wasn't so oft-injured. |
