I personally think, maybe in as soon as next year, the notion that people once wanted to trade Del Zotto will be viewed as insane. To me Staal, Girardi, and Mac all are very similar in their style. Del Zotto has the potential to bring something the others can't in a true dynamic offensive dman. I feel trading Staal just makes too much sense (if forced to trade a defensemen). We have shown we can defend just fine without him and he has more value than DZ. Just my 2 cents.
That is unless the silly EDM rumor came true - mrhattrick27
It's not that many of us want to trade MDZ, though some do, it's that we recognize that he may be our most marketable asset at a position of relative strength. And as Jimbo mentioned, ideally the Rangers would be able to ice three RHS with three LHS on the back end. As it stands currently that isn't the case. It wouldn't be an easy trade to make in all likelihood but it might be one that benfits the Rangers anyway. |

Trading del zotto is tough because of his contract too. Hes signed to a great, great deal and anyone we trade him for will likely have double his cap hit and we're so close to the cap already. And I dont see a team taking a boyle or pyatt of our hands to help our cap situation in the deal cuz they arguably have negative value. If u waive pyatt, he clears. Boyle probably not but still not sure it works financially. |

Anyone know how much Mason Raymond made last year? He's a fairly young (27) winger that played with the Nucks. He's a UFA and looks to be someone good for 15-20+ goals. Anyone know much about him? |

We make it sound like DZ signed this contract with this cap hit for 7 years. Del Zotto is going to be a RFA next year and if he thrives under AV and he puts up stats in the ballpark of where people expect it to be 40-50 points (or more) expect his contract to be not so friendly. |

that is a good point.
It's very likely if Del Zotto is still a Ranger this coming season he surpasses McDonagh in offensive production this season, and Del Zotto seeks a deal in the 4 million a year range as well next summer. |

And we have to resign Girardi, he will get something in the 4m to 4.5m range... and Stralman, he might get something in the 2.5m to 3m range... AND Moore, if he breaks out, expect him to get something in the 2.5 to 3m range as well. |

But we still only have 6 milish left in cap space to sign at least stepan and hagelin this offseason...u move dz for a guy making 5 mil and now we gave less than 4 mil for them. It doesn't matter about what hes gonna make next year. This is the situation we're in right now. |

I can't even begin to imagine the uproar on twitter if Michael Del Zotto ever got a 4 million a year deal. |

Actually, we have 8.956m in cap space right now. Cap geek hasnt taken into consideration that Asham and Powe have been waived (freeing up 1.8m) and that Johnson will be an AHL player (freeing up 600k) |

Richards will be bought out after this season and the cap increases, too. MDZ will easily fit with a reasonable contract. Additionally, I think Staal will be a UFA at that time and unlikely to either resign (to play in Carolina) or take a pay cut if his performance declines with the eye issue. I know Hank is up for an extension, but that should only be for $2M or so more than he is making now. |

I think people are way too hard on Boyle and Pyatt. They are what they are: bottom six forwards who can get you double figure goal totals. Boyle, as a center who is decent on the draw, adds the ability to also kill penalties effectively and is therefore more valuable than Pyatt. Considering what they make I think their production is fine and I would be stunned if they didn't have value to several teams on the open market.
Look at Boyd Gordon; he signed a three year deal worth $3M per in Edmonton and is known as a defensive center who is good in the faceoff circle. Can anyone tell me he is appreciably better than Boyle? Lapierre got $1.3M but doesn't have the offensive upside of Boyle (strange to write actually but true). Boyle would be able to get the kind of contract he currently has on the open market if he was a free agent. Consequently he would also have value in a trade. Not a ton but as a throw-in to help offset cap concerns I could see a team taking him along with MDZ for a scoring F that might be a tad overpaid. |

Capgeek also doesnt take into consideration jt miller, fast, kristo, or any other peoplee who would replace powe and asham. those 2 might be waived but they still need to be replaced. Same with boyle if we move his 1.8 mil...hes prob be replaced by a kid making 1 mil and we only end up saving a few 100k. |

JT Miller is the only one that I would think is expected to make the team. There will be a couple guys thrown in because of the injuries to Cally and Hags but we will get there when we get there. |

I disagree on the Pyatt front. To me Boyle is MUCH more valuable than Pyatt and gets paid SLIGHTLY more. Pyatt to me, was a plug. And I don't want to pay plugs $1.55M. I can almost get 2 players for the price of Pyatt and both will be as good with the addition of killing penalties. Guy is slow, and sucks. Isn't someone out there for defensive situations like a Boyle. Doesn't win big draws like Boyle, and can't kill penalties like Boyle. Guy is (frank)ing awful and if AV doesn't play favorites he will be watching plenty of games this year. |
