I wonder if Bryz can get more than a couple of years at $1.5 million to be backup now.
- Feanor

It would be Karma, if Bryz never played another game in the NHL.

Holmgren is still employed b/c Snider is a fiercely loyal guy. Only reason Clarke is no longer GM is because Clarke took himself out.
- phillydentist

Could also be that Snider let Clarke take himself out.

i think morin has 1st pairing potential. i see a lot of chris pronger in the way he approaches the game. let's also not forget that he doesn't turn 18 until this friday.

He was put in a position where he could not miss. He had no leverage. If he came back with Bob the next season and Bob struggled, Homer would have been fired. Snider would have said "I told you to get a top goalie and you didn't even though I was willing to pay top dollar."
- PhillySportsGuy

So then Holmgren is at fault for thinking Bryz was a top goalie which he clearly is not. And then to give him an elite level contract in term and hit is doubly wrong.

Allowing a guy to make what amounts to be a 40+ million dollar mistake is being dumb, not loyal.

Snider is both.

Phillies ownership is the same way with Amaro.

Go back to that offseason and tell me which goalie would you have signed. Vokoun? Mike Smith? Varlamov was traded for 2 1sts i think. Market value appeared to be high for a trade.

It was poor negotiation, but it was like buying something that you had to get and everyone new it.

Like I said, at this point does it really matter who's fault it is? Bryzgalov is gone.

I don't know much about OEL (I don't watch much AHL hockey ) but Mcdonagh is a really good player. Wouldn't mind him at all.

If it doesn't matter, why is it so hard for some to admit Holmgren was wrong for the Bryz fiasco?

Worst signing Howard, Bynum or Bryz?

Both very good players. Different skill sets. OEL plays out in Phoenix, if he was in a bigger market people would know about him.

Howard by a galaxy. Then Bryz. Bynum only had a year left.

Howard's contract is probably the worst in all of team sports.

I have zero problem criticizing Holmgren, in fact I probably do so more often than anyone outside of Isiahh.

That being said, when the situation is looked at objectively, imo I feel like the Bryzgalov acquisition has Snider's fingerprints all over it.

Vokoun was so good that year that he got a job backing up Fleury the next season.

I think Bryz was a safe move for Homer because if it didn't work out he could always go back to Snider and say "You told me to get the best goalie available. I got a Vezina finalist and it didn't work it."

If he signed Vokoun or stayed with Bob and it didn't work, he would have no excuse.

The really problem is that the Flyers have so much trouble developing goalies in the system. Most teams have at least a few goalies with NHL potential in their minor league system.

IMO Howard is the most forgivable but the worst. He gave this franchise a lot before getting the contract.
