Anyone going to developmental camp?
- Jimmygrazz

We normally don't discuss the slow development of forum members and their need to go to summer school. Don't like to point out deficiencies....

And no. Gotta work.

I watched The Dark Crystal last night for the first time in 25+ years. Loved it all over again.
- Flyskippy

Heck yeah! Love me some Dark Crystal.

Almost as much as I love seeing Bowie as the Goblin King in Labyrinth.

Anyone ever see the original Funny Games? Probably the most disturbing movie I've ever seen. Not much actual violence in it.
- feelingkettle

Yes

Michael Haneke is one of the best directors around, imo

How about hockey movies? If someone made a hockey version of Money Ball, that was focused on the front office, I would give them all of my money.

Agreed. I also really like The Piano Teacher by him. Him and Chan-wook Park (the guy who did Oldboy) are my favorite directors that make great but disturbing movies.

Their idea of taking good two way forwards in the first round has worked for quite a while now.
- PhillySportsGuy

You obviously have to give them Giroux.

But if you look at the 2003 draft, It was nearly impossible to not pick a decent player that year. There were only a couple of misses in the 1st round period. So while I'm not going to cherry pick players picked after them and ding the Flyers for not picking those guys, I'm also not going to overvalue their draft skills because of 3 forwards picked in last 10 years when 2 of those were picked in a year you could have thrown a dart at a board and pick players of roughly equal value.

Yes, I am discounting Steve Downie. He is the exact kind of player that I'd argue they should stay away from. I really wanted Paul Stastny as an example, a much more skilled forward with a higher ceiling.

I'll give them Couturier, with an asterisk that a) he was almost impossible not to pick in that spot, and b) they probably should have picked Hamilton instead. But it was a good pick.

Laughton may be a good pick, too early to say yet. I still think it would have been more prudent to draft Maata in that spot, but they may end up being correct there.

There are movies which help you define how magic touches your life. This is one of them. It's a kid flick but man it's good.

I started watching that movie but didn't finish after the dude crawled out of the bag. I couldn't remember it's name. Never need to see another minute of it again.
- mayorofangrytown

Yeah, I don't need to see stuff like that. To me, there's a difference between over-the-top violence and gore like the new Evil Dead and a mutilated dude crawling out of a bag and eating vomit. That's too much for me (much like Human Centipede).

Didn't that happen to Ian McKellen? He was offered the roll of dumbledor in harry potter and he turned it down cause he didn't think it'd be successful. Then he took the roll of Gandalf.
- JAKEw1234

No, I believe he was asked to play Dumbledore after Richard Harris died, and didn't want to because he had just played Gandalf and thought they were too similar. Might have also had something to do with friendship with Harris, but I'm not 100% sure on that part.
