Why not if you were St. Louis? Hall has a higher ceiling than Pietrangelo plus they need forwards. That being said I sure as hell wouldn't do that if I was MacT. I'd rather trade Ebs. History tells us how good first overall picks are in the NHL.
- TomKlassen

Cornerstone D-men are much harder to find then top-flight scoring forwards.

Doubt StL would do it strictly on cap hit. That would put them over with stewart still to sign.

I personally think it is too much. Alex may be the best player in that whole deal but it creates a hole after filling a hole.

AP.JS
Petry.Ference
NS.Belov

this is good but,

Hall.Nuge.yak
??.Gag.??
??.Gordon.Jones
??????

the team is still trying to find a 2LW and now also needs to find a 2RW. Don't say Hemmer cause I think he is not an option there anymore.

Infact swap Ebs with Hemmer and add other stuff, like retaining 50% of Hemmer's salary.

Dude you're over thinking that - I'd do that deal all day. Seriously, the hole up front is one thing but being concerned about the D would last a second.

You put your feet and light a cigar after making that trade.

Alas, they'll never deal him. They'd lose Stewart over him for sure you'd have to think.

And they'd probably dump a lot of depth guys before losing either Stewart or AP.

Not all Oil fans are completely jaded either. Any team would be foolish to say they wouldn't take Miller over Dubey. I'm an oil fan but have always cheered for the Sabres and Islanders in the east. To compare and fight over unproven prospects is a joke, both teams have sucked in recent years and have a plethora of prospects and i doubt the teams would make a trade as both are in similar positions (looking for assets right now and looking to trade prospects). Vaneks is a great player but sabres risk of losing him for nothing in a year, he won't get Sabres fans what they think they'll get for him unless its to a team that is in need of him closer to playoff time. DEf not any of the "untradables?" although it is stupid to call them that as anyone is trade-able for the right deal, real hockey fans should know this better than any, esp old oiler fans.

Not all Buffalo fans think that way mind you.

I wanted Josh Bailey and a second for Miller from NYI, conditional on Miller resigning. But they have sense re-singed Nabokov.

I dont think the Sabres and Oilers make great trade partners. They have the same group of players. A very young promising D, and a young crop of forwards, EDM having the advantage talent wise.

Anyone know when arbitration starts? I wanna see what Gagner is going to make... probably 5.25 if the Oil let it go there

I heard if he goes arbitration, gets one year term, he can become youngest ufa in NHL history after next season....don't want that to happen.

I cant figure out why MacT doesnt just sign Brendan Morrow.. Big, physical, big time leader, still scores. Oil can over pay if they have to. If it doesnt work out, trade him at the deadline. It appears to be the only option left, AND Mac doesnt have to move anyone.

Hall
Morrow
Paajarvi
Smyth

Is he broken? Does he want to come here? Does he want huge money and term? Does he expect a letter on his chest? Does he fit with the locker room vibe MacT and Eakins are trying to cultivate?

All things we don't know, which could explain the holdup.

29 years old is not anyhting crazy, he still has a good 5-6 years left in him. I believe Vanek is top 10 in goals scored since the lockout. He is a very talented player. I think any trade involving Vanek is contingent on him being signed.

But like I said I dont see EDM and BUF being good trade partners.

- ImThatGuy

Since the lockout, Vanek is tied for 13th in goals at 20. Of course you probably meant the previous one.

Give him 2years, $4 million per. Him and Ference can fight for the letters. And vibe? He's the vibe Oilers have been lacking.

I don't think it would be foolish to take Dubnyk over Miller at this point in each of their respective careers. After you add in contract status and other intangibles. I am not claiming Dub to be a better goalie but going forward I would rather hold onto Dubnyk for a bit longer.
And yes, I def remember crying when the Oilers traded Gretzky AND Kurri in one blow. Watching all my favorite players slowly being moved out killed my interest in hockey for about 10 years.

Again, from an outside perspective. We have no idea what he's like as a person. We also have no idea that he wouldn't be looking at 4 years, 5+ per to go to a non-contender like Edmonton.

He was trying to pay Gagner a compliment. We all know he isn't, but there's no point laughing about it.

How do you know who has a higher ceiling?
Pietrangelo I see as a future Norris winner...
Hall for Piets is a pretty good hockey trade for both sides...
I don't think Ebs for Piets would go straight up...Oil would need to add something.
And history like Daigle? Stefan?

Luckily for them, they're moving from the powerhouse south east to a relatively easy division featuring Chicago, St Louis, Minnesota, Colorado, Dallas, and Nashville.

Calgary's devastated.

That being said, Calgary and Winnipeg basically are the Leafs' retirement homes... so may as well.

Correct. I would have to find the article again, but I am lazy and 95% of the interweb is blocked at work.

Gotta say, I'd rather add to Eberle than do Hall straight up.

A) because losing Hall would hurt way more given the makeup of our team
B) because Eberle would be valued far higher given the makeup of their team.
