With Kadri at 4 mil, they have almost 40 mil tied up in forwards just this year alone. Doesn't leave a lot left for the D. - aminnes
Yup a thin D. Nonis is banking on Reilly or some young d men with the Marlies to fill in the holes on the Leafs D. But that's taking a big risk for the Leafs & mabie expecting too much from these young d-men. |

Still in shock reading people on here wanna split up the best pairing we've seen in years with Franson and Fraser. Sign them both first. - honesthockey
while i am hesitant to see carlyle break those two up the key issue here is franson is a top 4 d-men, fraser, not so much
they will have to be broken up eventually for franson to keep progressing forward |

Can't believe we're taking ~500K in salary for Scrivens and Frattin. Paid a steep price in trades alone and then they stick us for salary too? |

All six games! And they weren't that great. - honesthockey
true, but still the best on the Leafs in those games...
Franson has progressed beyond bottom pairing. Fraser has not. Stick Liles with him and hope the same magic happens for his game as Franson's.

45 good games and he's getting Matt Duchene money? seriously?
2 yrs $2.75 per. MAYBE you give him the same deal as Bernier.
Christ PK settled for $2.87 per and he was their top pairing D the last 2 years. - Big_Lightnin
this.. dont shell out for kadri just yet
short term cheap deal so that he can prove consistency

Everything just inflated, and your deflecting from the main point. Theres just no money left over right now to improve the area that most needed improving. |

?
only reason they took such a little return was cause of that $500k.
Philly offered MAtt Read, who is better than Frattin, but wouldn't take salary so Lomardi turned it down.
(and yes I am aware he liked Frattin, but still...).

Fraser made Franson a top 4. His influence on Franson's game was huge. Let him play in comfort.

in fairness.. the additions of bolland and clarkson are going to make the leafs D`s job easier
when you have defensively responsible forwards who can take away lanes and make the opposition attack more predictable it improves the D
D is a team job, not just the two guys on the back end |

I think he's putting everything on Bernier. Cause if he doesn't live up to the hype, people are going to wonder why they shelled 3.4 mil for him (with sal retention). |

They weren't bottom pairing last year. It would be insane to split them up. |

since last summer?
don't think so.
Clarkson left money on the table. Bozak left money on the table.
They don't have the cap room to overpay Kadri. I'm not deflecting, you're making up numbers that are way higher than they will be to support your argument that improving the team was a bad idea.

yes, but they mostly were up against 3rd and 4th lines
i simply do not think fraser has the wheels to start defending against top 6 forwards
who knows? got to try it before you give up on it tho
you know i am with you on this one when it comes to starting the season
got to get ink to paper on both before anything tho |

So roughly 15 mil for the D should be enough to contend? Not sure about that... |

Your defelecting from the main point that they haven't left enough room to improve the main area that needed improvement and making it about wether Kadri makes 3 or 4 mil.

12 forwards and 6 d
yes, it should be roughly 2:1 in spending honestly |

Yes they were. Lowest 5 on 5 icetime on the team of anybody who played more than 10 games (O'Byrne 8 games, Komi 4 games)
