I thought it was a little high, but when you see how much cap space is left its terrible. I was telling myself that it would help Kessel resign... but how do you resign Kessel with no room. Crossing my fingers that the cap goes up.
- kylkri

they'll have room next year. The money coming off the cap from buyouts and Frattin/Scrivens retention is enough to cover Phil to $7.9M on it's own.

This rain is punishment for signing Bozak.

YES the Gods are angry that we not only re-signed Bozak but to make things worse it's for 5 years. Guess that nixes our search for a true #1 center.

Bernier is better than Scrivens. This is a fact. Therefore it's better.

If Bernier turns out to be better than Reimer, it's (frank)ing gold.

If they left the goaltending alone, which wasn't a problem in the first place, there wouldn't be a problem. Now the D - which was the problem - will be worse.
- aminnes

I hear ya. Didnt really think that we'd get another goalie. Bernier is a solid pick up. Reimer is 1.8 mil, and bernier is 2.9 mil. For goaltending we have 4.7mil tied up. I know clarkson would have got it somewhere else but, hes getting the same amount as lupul. Between clarkson and bozak we have 9.45 mil tied up.

I dont think the goaltending salary is the issue.

Do you know how you search for a true #1 center?... you draft him.

Phaneuf, Bolland, Kulemin, McClement, Kessel. Plus, Bernier is no guarantee, and can only play so much. Defense getting worse. Dumb, dumb move. They are effectively paying a guy with 60 games experience 3.4 million. Retards.

Liles has to go. That 3.8 would go a long way to making sure everyone's resigned and we have a bit of wiggle room.

well, Bernier makes $2M more than Scrivens... so... there's an argument there.

Clarkson will be worth every penny, for 4 yrs anyway. Bozak is $1.3M cheaper than Grabo... so they're that.

If they didn't sign him they'd have paid Filpula more, or Weiss more... neither of whom or big enough upgrades over Bozak to warrant possibly pissing off Kessel.

Overall o, but compared to what they could have had, not in relation to other teams in relation to themselves. The D as it was isn't good enough, if they lose guys it probly gets worse, so why upgrade an area that didn't need it for an area that did?

ya I know, that's why I keep stating it that way.

Everyone keeps thinking it's Reimer or Bernier... forgetting for a moment we have BOTH for at least this year.

Given the crop of young D that is 2 yrs or less away, they didn't want to lock up long term with any.

I'd have been pissed if they signed Scuderi to that contract the Pens just did. \

you're looking at a 1 yr plan. They have more than a 1 yr plan for D.

I think making moves and then hoping someone picks up liles, if thats what they did, is silly. You make moves knowing he's gone or after he's moved. If he was going to be traded he would have been. Think back, how many moves get made from now until camp - very few ever.

Phaneuf down is never happening in the real world, Kulemin same sound fishy - lots of teams want him, McClement is an assumption also. You can't manage a team with a crystal ball. You have to know what your doing.

matter of opinion... and degree

They had a chance to upgrade tremendously in potential at a very small cost. That's a trade you make every time.

I think it's down or trade him. They can't pay Dion what he makes now let alone give him a raise.

Somebody will definitely trade for him at the deadline... or hell you take the cap space and let him walk if don't want to disrupt the room for the playoff run

Trading him made the most sense before free agency. Doing now means trading from a position of weakness. Plus, your not getting back a better defensmen in return. If what your saying is true and it's all about long term, this season could very well be a step back, at least on the defensive end.
