if arbitration awards fraser anything less than 3.5million the leafs HAVE to take it.
dangerous game Nonis is playing here.

- Dozzer

ah... wasn't aware of that rule.

(frank) me. ya... they're (frank)ed.

have to trade Gunnar if that happens.

He'll probably get an award of like $1.2M

Strange thing is - no idea why Nonis cares about the 2-way - If he doesn't make the team out of camp they'll lose him to waivers anyway. Offer $800K 1-way.

WHAT?

Arbitration won't give him $2M let alone $3.5M
guys highest career salary was THIS year at $600k!?

and they can't afford to sign him for $1M even. Never mind whatever an arb award gives him.

- Big_Lightnin

you arent listening

if the award is less than 3.5million then the leafs cant walk away

thats the rules.

so the arbitrator could give him 1.4million and the leafs would HAVE to sign it.

yup, exactly.

or they give him that award and the leafs promptly bury him on the marlies and go another route.

that way only the portion of his salary over 900K would be on the cap

and this is a New CBA rule, right? Cause Thrashers walked away from MacArthuer's award of like $2M and change or something like that. Certainly wasn't $3.5M

Too lazy to back read, but has anyone done a better job than me (hint: I generally make poop up and/or can't be bother to fact-check re: CBA stuff) at figuring out what the Leafs are going to need to do/how much for our RFAs?

Here's what Mirtle had earlier:

I think he's way low on Franson and Fraser and if so, we're (frank)ed unless we can move Liles.

Somebody said yesterday that we only get two buyouts (compliance or non-compliance) each year, but I can't confirm the non-compliance max; I've only seen the limit on compliance buyouts.

Blacker over Rielly saves 900k. And no way I want Reilly playing bottom pairing... rather he plays 30 mins a game in JR and goes to WJC again.

but ya Franson will be over $3M... Frazer should in the $800-950k range.

i am honestly curious to see what Fraser gets.. i think its more about having a one way deal than anything.

that's what was reported... and as I said above, seems odd. He'll never make it through waivers anyway, so why does Nonis care about having him on a 2-way deal?

rielly had 3 points in 16 games at the pro level last season

he's not ready.

why bother rushing a young PMD like that when you already have Gardiner Liles and to an extent Franson and Phaneuf on the back end?

it makes zero sense to burn up a year of his ELC

The leafs D needs some more stability.

send him back to jr, let him dominate, let him go to his second WJC.. and if his jr club doesnt move him to a playoff contender, bring him back up to the marlies for his second taste of pro life.

bingo
don't know what Mirtle is thinking actually... he usually knows better. Holzer will make the team over Blacker.

exactly.. some people arent looking at the defense as a whole

does blacker deserve a shot? yes, 100%

is he behind holzer on the depth chart? yes.. he is.

however a good camp could change that.

but rielly? thats just not gonna happen unless nonis makes a ton more moves before the end of the summer.

because, as it stands right now.. its debatable that we have enough left to sign kadri franson gunnarsson and fraser

just getting those three inked with the 10 million left is going to be extremely close.

and i would of liked to have hainsey on board too.

Think the same thing, UFA market is slim for stay at home defenseman and I don't know who is available for trade.. if anyone?

like i mentioned earlier.. once the leafs sign fraser franson kadri and gunnar they will have to make trades to move salary out in order to bring someone else in.

bozak and clarkson put Nonis tight up against the cap in truth.

Quoted from Mike's article:

"By filing for salary arbitration, Fraser’s representatives hope to force the Leafs into negotiating a one-way deal, but if the two parties go through the entire process, it is possible that the salary award could be more than Toronto is willing to pay and may result in the Leafs walking away from the award."
