Rudwedel and McNabb AHL
Risto back to Finland.

We got only 7 in my opinion.

Isn't Rudy on a 1-way deal?

Has McNabb actually shown anyone a reason as to why he should be in the NHL next year? From reports he wasn't very good in the A last year.
- BigStew

IMO, he's looked very good during his NHL stints.

He's got great instincts and is probally the best open ice hitter in the organization right now.

When your objective as an organization includes "develop young players" and "get tougher on the backend"... Playing Tallinder over Mcnabb seems like a direct conflict with the "plan".

He was for last season, not sure if it's structured as one way for other years.

He'd have to clear waivers first though, no?

To me its a precursor to another trade too many D and the sabres want to let a lot of these young kids play. Ruhwedel,McNabb and Ristolainen are NHL d-men something else is coming.
- sabresfandan

My thoughts exactly.
Another move is coming that includes moving defesemen or man out.
It's a given.

No. I didn't write this:

A two-way contract is a professional sports contract which stipulates that an athlete’s salary is dependent upon the league in which the athlete is assigned to play. This is opposed to a one-way contract that would pay the same salary regardless of where the athlete is assigned to play.[1]

Two-way contracts are common for professional ice hockey players who aspire to play in the National Hockey League (NHL).[2][3] Any hockey player entering the NHL for the first time will sign an entry level, two-way contract with an NHL team stipulating that he will receive a higher salary if assigned to play with the NHL team, but will receive a lower salary if assigned to play for a team in the minor leagues such as the AHL or the ECHL.[4]

1 way or 2 way is just about salary. Waivers are determined by years since signing your entry level deal, how old a player is when they played their first game, and how many games they've played in the big league.

I thought the one of the reasons he chose to sign with us was because of an NHL roster spot? I remember Hamilton saying on WGR that he had 23 teams interested him.

So since he's a rookie he can be sent down no problem

Last season was a 2 way deal too.

A condition of him coming to Buffalo was that he played in the NHL right away. Now he can go to Rochester without clearing waivers because he has 1 year of service and has played less than 70 games. Once he breaks 3 years or 70 games he becomes waiver eligible.

need leadership too. ehrhoff is it in the backend. hell, every team needs at least one vet to show the youngguns how to do it on defense and offense. the defense has a lot of pieces, i'm sure if you figure out L/R shooting you can make 4 pairs somewhat easily.

our foward core obviously needs work:

Vanek? - Hodgson - {Stafford}
{Ennis}/Armia - Grigo - Foligno
Flynn - Leino - Ott
Scott - Porter - Kaleta

hell, we get rid of ennis, and stafford, we could bring in armia and another young guy. if we get rid of vanek (i'm 50/50 on whether we should do this) then we better get somebody young and good to replace him with.

ennis + mcnabb = bobby ryan, and i would have done it all day long, adding that 8th overall was bullpoop and i'm glad they didn't do that we don't need him that bad.

Vanek, Ennis, and Stafford are the question marks in this lineup to me and I could see ennis being traded before stafford to be honest. there's not a market for him and I see him fitting better as a deadline guy more, if not this year than next, hopefully he catches fire between now and then.

We traded for a guy we don't need, but we only gave up a player who will never play in the NHL so it's not that bad.
- Pierceme69

Another trade has to be coming
Either Ehrhoff wants out, in which case it makes sense to bring in anothe vet...
Or one of our other Dmen is being packaged w Miller or Vanek

That's gotta be what's going on

I can't imagine they think it's a good idea for Tallinder & Sulzer to play over McNabb, Pysyk or Ruhwedel

Yes. He agreed to come here because we let him play in the NHL right away. But the only reason he couldn't go to the AHL is if he were too young. He's 23, so it's all good.

Him playing for us at the end of the season was just an incentive to get him to sign in Buffalo. A playoff bound team probably wouldn't be able to offer the same deal.

It's not his instincts that are the problem is his positioning and skating that are the issue. Not to mention it takes him a day and a half to let a shot off. I think it's clear taking 2 D in the first round McNabb's stock has fallen with the Sabres. I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved

I'm shocked that this move didn't happen 1-2 seasons ago when Buffalo was looking for a spark & Tallinder had more in the tank...

Sorry, but this move doesn't do much for me. It's too late. The ship had already sailed, it's time to develop youth & take the growing pains (if that is indeed the "plan").

So then Tallinder is going to hold Mcnabb down another year? ... Hecht revisited?

Seems like we're still spinning our wheels. In a year, Tallinder will retire and Mcnabb will have missed out on NHL playing time...

If the playoffs are out of the question anyway, it's better invest this time on developing the future.

This might be the move to push out Meyers - When Darcy was saying to mentor of young defense - maybe he is called our first round pcik. I really don't get it either. I could have figured we could have invested 3M dollar else where. That would have added a forward like Raymond or Brunner IMO
