Our GM overvalues all his players that's why we are in the position we are in, I personally don't want to trade Vanek I think we should keep him and add players for him.
- SABRES 89

That maybe so... but either way u cut you guys drafted awesome this year... those guys will be monsters down the road...

Why would Jagr go to EDM? He's 41...the guy wants be playing for a contender and a Cup...sorry but Jagr isn't looking to babysit kids at this point in his career.
- broadstreet11

Our players are young yes... but they are starting to move from kids to men... Hall and Ebs dominate this year- book it... and if our scawny center packs on 15 more lbs the league will be fuct... and Yaks just needs chemistry as he already is lights out... but thanks for that... and no I don't have the goggles on this morning...

Nobody wants Vanek and that terrible contract (you're welcome by the way). Ryan Miller has about as much value as Roberto Luongo. Even a goalie starved team in Philly balked at adding Miller.

You would have a better chance trading Leino than you would Vanek and or Miller. So all you Sabre fans can (frank) off and get back to fillating Grigorenko with Garth.

As for Stafford, he has as much value as Hemsky does. In fact I think he's just as lazy and useless as Dustin Penner.

No doubt- if you want a return for Miller- see Horcoff, Shawn to Dallas deal

Lets be fair. Of a 27 year old "superstar" goalie was traded for. Top ten first round pick only then a 33 year old goalie over the hump a bit will only get a prospect (b level) and a 2nd rounder.

Jagr could totally be an Oiler. I still think Hemsky goes though. I don't think you keep him around just to make Jagr happy.

If you get a good deal for Hemsky, you take it. You don't keep him and lose him for nothing for one year of Jagr.

I would take Vanek if they would part with Ott as well. Vanek and Hemsky swap as part of the deal. Both are 2 mil overpaid for 1 year left. Then we add paajarvi who fits their youth movement and they give us Ott who is almost always top 5 in hitting in the league. Vanek is better than hemsky and Paajarvi has more value that Ott but we would still need to throw more in. They want youth? Send them Acrobello and a d prospect that isn't Nurse, Klef or Marcinin. They get two young guys we are never going to play and we pay 3 extra million to have vanek on the wing instead of Hemsky. Plus we trade inconsistent paajarvi for a consistent goon that can put up points and play both ends.

Ott is a huge part of that team there. No offense, PRV and Hemsky realistically doesn't even get you Vanek, let alone him and Ott.

If you wanted Vanek AND Ott, it would have to be something like......

Paajarvi, Klefbom, 2014 1st, Marincin

And even then I'm not sure, Buffalo could want more proven talent in that deal and ask for a guy like Gagner instead of Klefbom and the 1st

I am not looking at Vanek for his talent. I am thinking of him as a contract dump with a guy that has 1 year left on his contract. That decreases his value. As for Ott, he is a big member of that team but where does he fit with their youth movement? However Vanek isn't really the guy I want anyways. It has always been Ott. This was more of an I'd be willing to take Vanek, only if they give me the player I want in return.

Vanek is not the guy the Oilers need. Not yet. He would cost us too many pieces to get and would be our highest priced guy. He would bring us skill but we would pay a lot to have a guy for a year.

I am just happy we were able to get Moffie from San Jose in that trade. I think that is going to be the missing cog in this whole Oiler machine.

I understand your thought process behind it all, believe me I do.

But Vanek is one of the best goal scorers in hockey. Is he overpaid at 7+ million? Yes. Is it by a lot? No. Vanek on the open market would get 6-6.5 or even 7 again. That's how good he is. If the Sabres wanted to simply "dump" Vanek, they definitely would have done so already. They aren't going to trade him for peanuts, he's a 1st line player.

You can't have an entire team of rookies and really young players, either. Steve Ott might as well be Team Dad on the Sabres. He is going to be THE GUY in that dressing room. With Pominville gone, I wouldn't at all be surprised if he was there next captain. They love him that much. He will be there through this rebuild and hopefully see some success when they start putting it all together.

But as far as the deal, what I'm basically saying is you have a better chance of just simply getting Ott (if that's who you really want) than getting Ott AND Vanek on the basis that taking on Vanek's salary will lead you to Ott. It doesn't work that way at all.

For the record, I agree with you that Ott is exactly the kind of guy the Oilers need. Boyd Gordon gives you one, but having another pure physical, energy player for the bottom 6 would be awesome.

Idk how much any of you watch the Yotes/Capitals, but Boyd Gordon is a (frank)ing nutcase. I've only seen a few players chase a forechecker and usually end up catching him and either causing a turnover or coming damn close EVERY SINGLE SHIFT the way Boyd Gordon does. He truly found what he was best at and is turning into a nice little NHL career.

I'm not all that familiar with him other than I know he played with NJ Devils prospect Jon Merrill.

I know he skates pretty well and has enough skill to move the puck, but idk that much offense translates to the next level with him.

St. Louis now have 14 NHL forwards and still need to sign Chris Stewart who gives the team "balls" as per a source close to the team...

...the Blues also likely have an internal team cap...in otherwords something has to give up front with the likes of a Perron or Oshie

Why tweet if oilers weren't interested. Hmmm. I would prefer Stewart but he likely stays

Seguin just tweeted... after many attempts of hackers trying to tarnish my reputation I've decided to shut down my Twitter account for a while.

Sounds like someone that needs to stop drinking and tweeting.
