I know this is belated but we never saw an offer sheet on Subban. What I am getting at is are one of these teams due to throw out an offer sheet at a player like Tanev or has the hole offer sheet thing gone out the window? Are GM's actually learning from the mistakes they have made? I don't really know with all the stupid FA signings.

Very nice hilight package of Cole Cassels courtesy of theFeebster over at HF (**sorry, don't know how to embed).

Kid actually has some real offensive talent. Will be interesting to see how he handles more minutes and a bigger responsibility with his inevitable rise in OSH's depth chart.

Keep in mind this kid played most of the year on the 3rd line in Oshawa (behind Jenner and Laughton), and got minimal PP time.

Although, from the looks of the video he did get some PP time with Jenner.

There are some nice fight videos of him on his thread at HF, as well.

Tanev's no worth offersheeting. If it's too low an offer, the Canucks just match. If it's worth a 2nd rounder, they're overpaying the kid and losing a pick to boot. Besides, the animosity it creates among GMs is too great for a player of such fringe abilities. I'd be shocked if anyone bothered.

MG needs to get on this just in case any GM who's scouting staff might be high on him decides to take a shot. It's not worth risking it to save a a couple hundred thousand in negotiations. I know that he's mostly played against third and 4th lines since joining the Canucks, but he's also started the majority of shifts in the defensive zone, yet he has a positive Corsi rating to show for it. This kid does have second pairing upside IMO and is already a solid #5 d-man at he age of just 23.

Good point. A person can get sucked in by the mass hysteria. Mostly driven by opposing fans.

Great skater and passer. Needs to work on offence and shot. He also needs to work on hitting a bit.

I'm sure the 2 sides are talking. Tanev or his agent probably think they can get more money than Gillis is offering. Maybe they are hoping for an offer. There should be no real fear of losing him. If he gets offer sheeted, he won't be worth what he gets given and we'll get paid for him in picks. I don't see any need for urgency on Gillis's part.

I would not be okay with losing Tanev for a late second rounder if a playoff-caliber team throws him a decent offer sheet. And if Gillis decides to match, he'll be right up against the cap. Kind of a lose-lose scenario to me. This team isn't exactly loaded with upcoming defencemen. I do agree with you that it's highly unlikely but I'm surprised it's taken this long.

Apparently he is claiming his twitter account was hacked.

This is what the Dallas Stars think about it: "In no way, shape or form does the Dallas Stars organization condone or agree with the message that was sent out through Tyler Seguin’s Twitter feed last night. We’ve addressed the issue directly with Tyler and we’ll continue to work on educating our players regarding the importance of their conduct on all forms of social media.”

Weise is fine. He fights (poorly) and hits (so-so) and he's got good wheels. I don't hate having on the team for cheap.

You're obviously more impressed with Tanev than I am. If someone offered a 2nd straight up for Tanev, I'd consider it fairly generous and probably make that deal. His skill set is very limited as far as his offensive game and his physical play and he's got a terrible shot. He's fine for under $1.5m, but even that is pushing it for me. Corrado seems like a more well rounded player. There are proven depth Dmen like Hannan who will play for $1m.

Two-way just means he makes different salaries at the NHL and AHL levels.

Doesn't affect his ability/inability to be sent down or up—he'd still have to pass through waivers with either a one- or two-way contract.

And as long as it's under $900k/season, it has no affect on the Canucks salary cap if he ends up playing for Utica.

It's not just a 2nd rounder gained—it's also the bonus of not having to overpay him.

Unless it's a contract >4 years (preferably >5), which sees Tanev sacrifice at least one year of UFA eligibility, Gillis needs to walk at anything over $2million/season.

I know this is a hockey forum, but look up sam groth and see how he plays...
The man has a great serve and has every reason to have the world record for fastest serve in tennis. 163 mph is crazy!
But the man moves like grandpa on a crane and can't hit shots onto a wide open court.
And dont get me started on his footwork...
Heres a funny comment on a forum I found
"I just saw that match. has there ever been a more terrible mover like him? He moves like an elefant even karlovic moves twice as good."
Karlovic is a complete slug as well. A kid can move faster than him.

I think somewhere around 1.5 for 2 years is fair for Tanev. As for his trade value, how many mid or late second round picks are NHL regulars by the age of 23? Wouldn't you be hoping to land someone as good as Tanev with the 50th pick in the draft?

You also lose a solid young 23 year old RHD as well though. And I agree that anything over 2 million is too much at this point, but what I'm saying is that Gillis should try to get this deal done and avoid losing him for a second round pick.

I'd take a signed Tanev at 2 or 3 years at around 1.5 million over a mid-late 2nd rounder(plus a new roster hole, and a weaker depth chart) anyday of the week.

Corrado would then become the second best RHD on the team, with Yannick Weber being the third, and imagine if Bieksa goes down.
