Yes, but if three rfa's go to arbitration that would signal that the club is low balling all of them after whipping out the cheque books for ufa signings.

That would leave a sour taste in my mouth. Meh.

Either way, it's not something I would deliberately do just to buyout liles.

That's not what I was saying, but if the arbitrator awards them crazy dollars, what else are we going to do?

I thought it was, although I can't find anything concrete, because teams would have no control over salary arbitration awards and couldn't possibly address a cap issue before the compliance buyout window ends.
- gravyface

that's why they get another buyout window. Compliance buyouts are only 2.I'm 100% positive on that.

Depends on what the player considers lowball I guess....

Bozak would have considered 3.5m/year to be lowball... I would have considered that to be more than fair, as would many others. Depends on what the agents get the players to believe...

Walk away.

Business is business... If you don't leave yourself room to sign your top rfa's that's just piss poor management.

I don't think you get a capless buyout from arbitration.

Yeah it's standard buyout rules in the second window as far as I know

Whitney can't skate well at all anymore.

Can still pass well enough.

Not physical at all.

And we still only get two? Cannot (frank)ing find anywhere that this is all spelled out; just pieces here and there in articles.

Just looking at cap geek

Leafs have 10.3 in cap space with Kadri, Franson, Gunner to sign.. And note sure about any more holes to fill...

Seems a little tight

On Ryan Whitney...

Hearing Maple Leafs are very interested...

Makes sense if they know they can dump Liles for a song and sign Whitney for less.

I have a feeling there is a buyer out there for Liles or we would not be talking about this at all.

Not liking that we took on an extra 1.9 million in goaltending plus 500K in retained salary... We really tied our hands solving a non-existent problem.

I hope so. I'm pretty sure I heard Islanders want a replacement for Streit.

So we get two compliance buyouts for 2013 (which we've used) and 2014. There's another buyout period in September after arbitration awards are given. If we did a non-compliance buyout for Liles, we'd knock off ~3M of cap for the next two years, but then it jumps up to over $2.75M for the last year of his contract.

Kadri should be had for about 4-5 mil.. Gunner, maybe 2.5, it's Franson thats the canundrum because he's coming off a good, year, albeit short. What do you pay a second PP 2nd unit guy?

Yup, the Bernier signing was too much. But once they traded for him he had them by the balls.

Liles is untradeable.

C'mon, fellas.

He was a healthy scratch 3 times in 7 games in the playoffs.

Nobody wants him with that contract.

Nobody.

Nope - two buyouts total.

That sucks, why wouldn't they just sit on Komi for one more year? Nonis' cap management is starting to look a little crap.

I think if we're lucky Gunnarson takes 3M, maybe for more term; Franson came off really good year and he'll want a raise, probably closer to 4M, but hopefully on a long-term deal that takes him a few years into UFA.

Kadri's going to be around 3M probably for 2-3 years.

Matt Duchene's same age, but has way more games and is only making 3.25M.

Liles was great before the concussion.

Say a little prayer every night that he can find his game again.
