9.5 is way high.. They'll prolly get 3 each.. One half season isn't enough for them to push for 4+.. And being rfa they don't have the same leverage
- Dozzer

3 each is fair but if we pay up now and lock them up long term, as they improve the deal looks better and better. It's a risky approach but has a high reward. Look at the JVR contract, I think it's going to get better every year.

I would venture to guess O'Byrne got in for the -3 injured Kostka and Gardiner replaced the more similar style player Liles who was scratched......

How much do you guys think it will cost to resign Franson and Kadri?
- MapleLeafsFTW

Kadri is gonna get a deal similar to JvR's I think. I think they'll appear to overpay in the now, but in the long run get him at a steal. Something like an 7-8 year deal I bet. Then again, what the (frank) do I know besides being sexy as (frank)?

Whast the report on Ron Hainsey... he looked like he logged a lot of minutes last year... any chance we could sign him?
- DarcyTucker16

There's a reason why Winnipeg missed the playoffs.

True, I don't like those roll of the dice contracts personally but they do work out for the best sometimes

Inconsistent netminding?

Hainsey could be a nice addition for the right price. He's def not worth the contract he just came off of

Did Winnipeg lose their NHL team again? They're doing nothing.

I really do think they are best, they can handcuff the team seriously but it's a really good way to keep your core intact. The hidden benefit is that the cap generally keeps increasing, so 8 years from now Kadri at 4.5-5 would look really good on a 80 million dollar cap. Especially with Franson, he was a beast in the playoffs. He may be a top pairing guy and if you can get him at a decent price long term then it's a risk worth taking.

Oh yes, I understand the premise... It's just when they don't work out they look like a huge overpayment even at the contracts end.

That's what I don't like. Then again, with Kadri, that might be the best way to go

Who would you consider our top 4?

Based on who Dion played with last year than yeah, can't have Holzer and Kostka on your top pairing. Gardiner could fit up there. Fraser and Franson was a really good pairing too.

Haha sorry, I just get stoked about the idea of it.

I agree that the risk is there too though, if 2 years in Kadri starts having injury problems it can quickly become the contractual equivalent of herpes.

EDIT: Come to think about maybe that's why Holmgren moved JVR? He may h ave been scared he would become an injury bug.

Jays suck.

Anyone have access to the Dobber Hockey thingy that shows who played with who?

How much did Dion play with Kostka last year at even strength?

Fraser and franson were the 3rd pairing

Phaneuf needs a stable stay at home guy to cover up his gaffs.. So not anyone like liles or gardiner.. Gunnarsson is the right mold, but he's not a top pairing guy

So yeah, hainsey would likely be top pairing by default.

Then gardiner and Gunnar

Followed by Fraser and franson

Not all that pretty is it? Lol

I seem to remember Liles playing with Phanuef when he first came to Toronto - or am I smoking crack?

I'm pretty sure you're smoking crack regardless of the answer...
