I always liked Grabs. He's got speed, skill, and tons of heart. It's a cap move, and a calculated risk by Nonis, tough one to call.

Exactly, I'm starting to worry about Nonis though, seems like he's starting to take some unnecessary risks. Yeah Bolland is good but are we at the point to trade 2nd round draft picks + for him? What about Frattin? He is the kind of guy who burns us by being successful.

I see the point with the Bolland move... we're now entering the "win now" phase, and what better way than to address a need (improved team defense) while bringing in a guy who has been a winner at every single level that he has played at? The second round pick is a bit of a crapshoot, so I see the logic in parlaying it into somebody who can help now, especially somebody who will love playing for the Leafs.

I don't like the Bolland move - Bolland is a health case...last thing we need is some guy who injury prone. If he stays healthy great - but I don't know....seems too risky for what it is.

Yeah, I guess the idea is if Bernier is indeed a top flight goalie, that's more valuable than Frattin et al.

With Bolland and Clarkson the Leafs added toughness and vet SCF experience with both guys...maybe Nonis saw how competitive the Leafs were with Boston and figures with these elements maybe we win a Game 7 like that...and if they can hang with Boston, they are contenders.

I do think LA and Chicago got some stuff that will work out for them, but we also had the leverage in those deals were they needed to move a guy anyway because they have that luxury with Quick etc.

The coach played a huge role in the move.

Grabs was not a Carlyle type of player.

btw: what handle does UG go by nowadays?

Like Lupul.

except that the Leafs didn't give away draft picks to get Lupul.....and he might be slightly more talented than Bolland - but yes....dealing with players who seem to be often injured is a pain....giving up draft picks to pick up a guy who is injured all the time - meh not a fan really. Not horrible or anything - if he stays healthy then I think it's a great move.

Dude. That was March. He was so bad and struggling that they played him in the playoffs, and he shone. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah to get Lupul we gave up a defensive defensemen which at this point is exactly what we need.

Meh not gonna knock Lupul bc when he has played he's been great. Kinda of odd though that he was apparently absent from Phanuef's wedding. I've heard more than once he isn't a team guy.

He got on the ice bc of injury. Period. I'll give him credit. For 6 games he played better than normal. Let's see what we get this year.

so you think given the opportunity the leafs trade Lupul, Gardiner and pick for Beach right now if they could? .... yeah didn't think so (even with your hate on for Gards you wouldn't do it).
