He's an RFA, Leafs would have to trade for him. So it's a 2 way street, If the guy is good than:
-Why wouldn't the Preds wanna re-sign him.
-If he is good the Preds likely won't trade him.

If he's still not experienced enough, the Leafs have a glutton of those type of D men.
