Yup. Someone posted that Kadri could be playing Kessel and JVR by Christmas if he keeps improving, hope so. Give him a bridge deal and pay him what he's worth in 2 years. - BetterCallSaul
Only thing I say is that if Kadri goes up, Lupul should too.
Kinds leaves all our eggs in one basket though. |

Bottom line we got both Clarkson and Bozak for less than MARKET value.... meaning they could have gotten more elsewhere..... not to mention it won't hurt having Bozak when it comes time to extend kessel
Phil Kessel @PKessel81 5 Jul

ya If Kessel holds them up for $7.5M+ I'm gonna be pissed.

How do you hate someone, if he was never played by wilson... great logic. He was really good in nashville and i already knew well before he came here he was a decent addition. There was a reason why burke had him as the key piece in return for taking on lombardis contract.
JVR is clutch in playoffs. - Mapleleafs_91
He didn't play him bc he sucked ass.

If he continues his play of the last 2 seasons he will be worth that very easily on the market.
Guys like him are not replaceable unless you get a top 5 pick and spend years developing them. I bet he gets 8 for 8. |

But the only reason we signed his loverboy was for a discount on him. |

and puts 2 shooters on 1 line, and 2 net presence guys on the other... not really best use of the talent IMO.
Top line would be great, but 2nd line I don't think would be strong enough of a scoring threat.

oh ya I agree... just saying they gave bozak more than they probably should have to keep his buddy here. Kessel should recognize and leave some money on the table so they can get the D they need.
EDI: not saying that's the only reason they signed Bozak, but it certainly didn't hurt his negotiations. |

the problem for Franson when he was in Nashville was quite simple... and it wasn't that he was crap:
1) powerplay... guess who's playing the right side with the big shot.... that would be Mr Weber.
2) penality kill - guess who's playing the rights side, who can block shots and clear the puck... that would e Mr Weber..
3) guess who played 26-28 minutes a night on the right side? once again we know the answer...
there was no way that Franson could excel in Nashville, no minutes and no powerplay. their next "stud" defenceman their is Josi, guess where he plays - the left side with Weber.
As soon as Franson began to get consistent minutes (yes with Fraser) he settled down, and he certainly didn't hurt the power play any.

unfair comment - if you meant it seriously.
Wilson screwed a lot of players, and was lenient with others.
I guessing, but I believe Luke Schenn's time in Toronto would have been very different if Carlyle had had him since he came into the league.
And oh yeah... he had to play with Kaberle - in the post Janssen's era- a terror inducing event for many a d-partner. |

I bet you guys are pretty happy you didn't get too deep into the insanity yesterday. I think Briere is well past his best before, but he should scare up a last hurrah for a year or two and then you are off the hook anyway. Jagr for a year will be good.
... and your cap is not F'd for when you have to sign Subban. to a big deal.

Why didn't Burke (being the boss) tell Wilson to play this guy he just spent about 100million on???? Instead the contract Burke brought in to eat ( to get Franson ) ended up playing and Franson was up in the presser???
WTF was wrong with Burke and Wilson...
If I was Burke I would have said " Play Franson"
Wilson says " never"
Burkes says " you're a (frank)ing moron - YOUR FIRED"
that's how my convo would have went If I was Burke. ( (frank) I'm glad I'm not that ugly ) - Garnie
And that would have been the last coach who ever would have worked for you. |

actually Leafs are getting $2.5M off the books next summer in Buyouts and salary retention.. that gets him to $7.9M right there...
so any rise in cap can be used on D.

well i'm not sure. i don't like the lack of size up front in the top 6. didn't like it before Briere. and still not sure what role Parros can play. but i don't think Bergevin feels that he has to have this team contending in the next year or two so hes taking his time. he's not handicapping himself long term. but i hope he doesn't plan to go into this season with Briere, Gallagher, Gionta and DD in his top 6, because he is going to get these guys killed. |
