Is it just me or...I don't understand Alfredsson's reasoning for leaving the Sens and joining the Wings. Supposedly to sign with a contender, these aren't the Wings of the last few years, they barely squeaked into the Playoffs last year. If you ask me, Ottawa is in a better position to contend than the Wings are, they've slowly been in decline (aging), over the last couple of years. Somebody should have given Alfie the memo. - ThePresident
Alfie could have been 1 of the most respected players to ever play in the league
1 team - Front Office job after -
Now he looks like a complete moron - taking less money to go play for a team that is behind the Sens I believe in total team talent.
Oh well - it's the Snores..who cares!!!! |

ya I'm pretty sure they are very well suited for the East... it's puck possession hockey.
speed could hurt them without the puck, but they tend to have it a lot. - Big_Lightnin
Yup
I think they'll adapt

tax differential isn't that large... the players who have been playing for a while in the states (use Weiss and example) will have had their investments and income structured so as to minimize taxes.. and would come out 10-15% better at the most.no way Alfie sees that differential... unless he's getting some form of under the table payment that accompanies his salary. - BorjeFan4Ever
on $4-5M a year, that's a lot of (frank)ing money.
and yes it plays a role. Players say it does all the time. |

Adding 1 player who can play with any physicality whatsoever to this teams top 6 greatly improves it! |

and adding Bolland to the 3rd line makes up for Loss of Komarov's peskiness.

why not play for Ottawa for cheap but tell them you want the option to pick a team to be traded to at the deadline. That way Ottawa gets Alfie for the bulk of the season, they get a really good return in picks/prospects at the deadline and Alfie gets to pick what looks to be a cup favorite team to go play with.
Something else had to go on....oh well - I love it lol |

Sens (frank)ing floated into the playoffs without having their #1 C #1 Winger #1 Goalie down for a bit....Wings are (frank)ing a bunch of blue hairs, their best players get (frank)ing Seniors discounts.
You guys are in dreamland!!! |

cause he already did that last year. then they snubed him when he wanted fair value. |

Murray told Alfie's agent just to name what he wanted and the deal was done.
I think he visited Detroits "Seniors Residents" Locker Room and liked what they had set up. ie. Shuffleboard - Indoor Pool - Free Nacho's on Thursdays - Bus rides into town so he could give up his car - etc etc.

The Alfie decision is odd. The Sens have a better shot at the cup than Detroit. |

Sens made the playoffs because they had the hottest goaltending in the league from both goalies.
period.
Odds are that doesn't happen again.
wings best players were both over PPG last year. |

meh the cheap part was optional - just figured he'd improve his chances of going to a cup contender at the deadline if he was cheap....either way....glad he jumped ship |

Ottawa has a solid up and coming team. I'm not convinced Detroit is better. |
