Not exactly a team a player at 40 years old would pick to take a run for the cup, maybe 5 years ago, not now. It's not close to a sure thing, nothing is a sure thing, but other teams are definitely closer....Boston, Chicago, Pitts, even the team he left, Ottawa.

Every year many people say the Wings are falling off, getting old, not the same team anymore.

And every year the Wings shove an octopus down their gullets.

Boston was looking to sign him according to Chiarelli
- ThePresident

that's why I made the division comment about Detroit... thinking he maybe didn't want to sign within the division... oops

lest we forget however that the West has far tougher, much faster vastly superior teams to the East.... evidenced by the manner in which the West completely dominated the Stanley Cup final this year.

and they lost Ferrence
- bobbyisno1

Yeah, and will have Hamilton playing fulltime, and possibly Morrow. Ference is reliable, but average at best.

This was the worste they've looked in a long time, and 100% due to loss of Lidstrom.

Can't question them once they get too the playoffs cause they are so experience, but I wasn't at all surprised they nearly missed.

Those guys are not eligible any more
- jribout

understood... but hopefully the genius' at Hockey Canada actually start playing the best players... instead of the ones they "should" be playing because someone ranked so and so higher...

wouldn't it be a great idea to a goaltender who can actually play in a big game?

(not having a go at you... rather at Hockey Canada).

Because everybody expects them to make it, it's the Wings. Admittedly though, they did look worse last season than they have in years.

ya you guys had a pretty good day.

If only Clarkson had grown up idolizing Messier instead of Clarkie, you guys would have run the table on players we wanted

All I'm going to say is that next year is going to be tough to make the playoffs. The Leafs didn't exactly improve all that much overall, just became more tough. Meanwhile, Detroit, Columbus, Boston, Ottawa, Philadelphia all improved themselves, even more so than the Leafs. Going to be a long year, especially if Clarkson gets injured......
- ThePresident

Ottawa didn't improve much, certainly not more.
Philly improved? Ha.
Boston and Detroit, no doubt.
Columbus improved on a poopty team.
I'm not too worried.

9 goals and 8 assists in 22 games before the concussion on a defensive oriented team is pretty dominant....

ya I'm pretty sure they are very well suited for the East... it's puck possession hockey.

speed could hurt them without the puck, but they tend to have it a lot.
