Cooke > Clutterbuck, overall.
- Orpik44

Not at all.

Clutterbuck doesn't carry the Cooke reputation, throws 300+ hits in a season and rarely gets majors/suspensions and is 10 years younger. Cooke might be better on the PK, but Clutterbuck is damn good in that role as well. If we thought that Cooke looked good with Neal and Malkin, Clutterbuck would be the perfect fit for that line.

It sucks that he went to the Islanders. Hell spend the foreseeable future driving us crazy.

No, cookes reputation was not why he's not with the pens. Cooke helps the team in more ways than one. He makes the team he's on better. If shero simply didn't want him because of his reputation then that's just ridiculous. It was because he wanted too much

How would you feel about acquiring Marcel Goc? He could certainly liven up the bottom 6. He's a UFA in 2014 as well.

Sill is interesting but I have heard from people in WBS that he has a ways to go. Definitely could fit the 4th line bill soon but not ready yet.

Don't be surprised if the 3rd line help comes via trade IE: Niskanen.
- Ryan_Wilson

That's what I'm hoping for.

I don't think Cookies hoi in the playoffs had anything to do with the Pens letting him go. They just only have so much money.

I think Nisk and Jussi both need moved... Nisk because Despres is better and needs to be paired with a more reliable guy. Jussi because we need grit on the 3rd line.

I like Jeffrey but again no grit.

What about Paul Thompson in WBS is he a legitimate prospect?

I hope this is the year Bylsma puts some faith in youth.

Sill has been at WBS for four years now. If he's not ready yet I doubt he ever will be.

I'm hoping for youth too, but It's not looking likely...

So far I've heard Bylsma backtrack on Bennett and Despres. Granted, Scuds is a significant addition and you wouldn't expect Despres to play in front of him.

I think it's obvious Nisk will be moved.

He'll ask for too much money I guess.

For a lower price we still have some interesting names out there..

Skille, Mueller, Larose, Ryan Jones, Kobasew, Latendresse, Yip, Armstrong, N.Johnson

- Orpik44

N.Johnson signed in Boston.

Petr Mueller? He'd be interesting on the 3rd.

Army? While I hated him leaving originally, does he have enough left to come back for reasons more than nostalgia?

No LaRose please.

Penguins aren't necessarily finished looking at the free-agent market, but Dan Cleary is not on their list of candidates.

Rats. You are full of good news.

madmike, we already have Adams, Sutter, Dupuis, Jokinen and Glass for PK duties. No need to bring another one. Morrow would be a perfect compliment to our 3rd line if he comes back a little faster. How about Cleary? He's another option if the price is right.
- Orpik44

Morrow good, Cleary gone

Agreed, I don't like the mix of players I see on the open market for filling what they need. The mix of sandpaper/grit/but the ability to pot 15 goals is in a 3rd line role is seriously lacking.

Petr Mueller? He'd be interesting on the 3rd.

He's a center, with moderate skill and he plays Hemsky soft. Not a good candidate for a third line.

I like the first three you mentioned and N. Johnson, who is gone.

Ryan Jones - yuck; Kobasew - yuck; Latandresse is fragile as hell; Yip - yuck; Armstrong - see Latandresse.

What the hell does this have to do who's a better player all around? Weak case.

OK, actuall numbers.

Cooke

PPG: 0.385
Goals PG: 0.163
+/-: +53

Clutterbuck

PPG: 0.317
Goals PG: 0.179
+/-: -27

They are pretty comparable with advantage to Cooke in PPG and +/-.

Clutterbuck wins the coolest name and most hits hands down though

I don't care what line Despres plays just don't scratch him in the regular season.

Exactly why I was hoping Bylsma left. Was hoping for Tippet.

I'm willing to give Bortuzzo a try on our 3rd pairing. The guy can play but need some ice time. Engo can sit a bit. Dumoulin is another guy we can take a look at.

He throws almost double the hits that Matt Cooke throws in a season without taking the same penalties. If you can't find the value in that then I don't know how to explain it to you.

I feel bad for the guy. He was a top 6 player before getting injured. Then he came back and he's just not the same. He had loads of potential and I really hope he works back to it

I recognize hits are important, Ben, but what I also see is that Cooke is a better all around player. PPG, +/- he's superior to Clutts and that means something. You're failing to see it. Would I want Clutterbuck in Pittsburgh?Hell yeah. A Cooke/Sutter/Clutterbuck line would be amazing to watch.

Do you know what would be real cool? Philly trading Coburn and Mezsaros and signing Joe Corvo to a 5 year, $4M per deal

If Dumoulin is ready I can't see why we shouldn't bring him up. Those guys need to play at some point. I'd love to keep Harrington for 1 year in the AHL before bringing him. He'll be a staple on our lineup. Engelland's days in the Burgh are almost over.
