ROFL are you actually thinking that the Devils are just using revenue sharing right now? The NHL has stepped in to help FUND YOUR PAYROLL. This is the same situation as the Phoenix Coyotes, who actually are in a BETTER situation now that they will have an actual owner. You have an actual owner who has run out of funds. This is not revenue sharing, this is the NHL paying for your team.

In all seriousness do you really think Clowe is a good deal? I think it may go down to be the worst deal in the past few years. WOrse than Richards
- mighty13duck

I'll weigh in even though he asked you rm...the contract itself isn't that great...that being said he is a better player than Clarkson and we got him for less and for less years. I'm happy he's on the team...not jazzed about the deal but it won't handcuff us.

Good player bad deal. But its not like he's forcing anyone out. We were already top 4 in possession last year (along with LA, Chicago, and Boston) so I think we'll see his numbers improve.
- rmdevil313

He may. And he is not the same player he used to be. That contract was abysmal. If the Rangers signed him for that you guys would be laughing at them. You guys should rebuild and start building some cap space. Especially with your financial troubles. I can never understand why an Owner would love to just throw out all his money. Makes no sense, unless hes getting help from the outside.

if by better, you mean declining at 30, 3 goals last season (prorated to 5! woot!) then good work!

I think one thing can be said that's a fact, this whole group of UFAs were a shoddy bunch and that the majority of them will be overpaid because of what teams' options were this offseason.

Having said that, I wouldn't have been happy with the Isles signing Clowe to that type of contract, but, you never know. He might stay healthy and play the way he did before this season, or play the way he did for 3 weeks for the Rangers.

Why should we start rebuilding? If Kovy doesn't go down we probably make the playoffs last year. We add Clowe to replace clarkson and another top 6 forward in Ryder.

So you are basing everything you believe about the devils by one article? GARY BETTMAN HIMSELF said there is no worries about the devils financial stability and future...I'm pretty sure the nhl commissioner knows more about it than some random fan on hockey buzz.

I mean, right before you sell a team in 230 million of debt, first thing you do is add millions of salary, right?

are you really that delusional? You think the commissioner of the NHL go public and say that one of his teams is having financial difficulties, but you use THAT as evidence that an article in Forbes is incorrect?

How long has Bettman said hockey can work in Phoenix while the NHL funds that team. How long has it taken to negotiate a lease with the city in that situation? Who's reaching here?

Not exactly the most convincing argument. Fred Wilpon tried to do the same poop with the Mets, and they're not in any type of financial problems, right?

refer to my post above. I'll take Forbes word for it, not the commish who has a vested interest in making the league look stable for investors and sponsors.

and as a side note here, the clowe contract on it's own is terrible value and a hell of a gross overpayment, the reason it's even worse is because your owner can't even pay for it himself.

No, the NY Post is the tabloid, you know, the source of the forbes article? Or did you not read it.

And TG isn't a "Blogger." He's one of the most respected writers in the PHWA.

I don't really know or care about the financial situation as long as my team is solvent enough to exist. They now, for the first time in a long time, field a strong group of 4 lines right from the start of the season. They're likely going to make the playoffs. With 4 deep forward lines and 3 deep D pairs and a legit top-5 goalie...I wouldn't want to play NJ in the playoffs this year. If we lead the league in shots against with Schneider in goal...I more than like our chances.

when the third party was used in CBA negotiations over the horse's mouth as evidence which teams were making money and which were losing, over a source with a conflict of interest trying to drum up sponsorship and investment money, which is more credible? If you can't tell that, you're in denial.

btw, all the people who crapped on the Isles for the last 3 years about moving the team, and I recognize some of you, this is payback. And payback is a female dog.

Frankly, I don't even know what this back-and-forth is about. The Devils are going nowhere, even if there are (I saw the Post article last week, when it was in the business section of the paper) financial problems, I fully expect this to be rectified soon enough.

If you look back a few posts, I actually kinda-sorta defended the Clowe deal. It's all a matter of a mediocre UFA class, and these are the players that were lucky enough to be UFAs this offseason.
