Massive overpayment. Should have signed him to a 3 year 5.5-6m deal. Signing players based on potential, when they've done nothing, is a recipe for disaster.

He is already a great dman. I'm critical of Snow when needed not needed here. Good job Snow.

Nothing wrong with the deal. It will be a steal in a couple of years. Everybody who watches the kid on a daily basis knows its a good deal.
- Vukota

His salary is good for a bridge type contract it's exceptional for a long term like they signed him to, Healy is a jackoff, I'm pretty sure he laid the ground work for early retirement when he said Datsyuk isn't that talented

Yet Healy has no issue with Clarkson for 7 years...so despise that guy. Great signing for Garth...move on from Healy , he isn't worth the time....

Other teams signed contracts with players just like DP contract or Hamonic yet they all take issue in the Isles doing it...then they complain when we don't spend $$$$ makes me crazy

and to think the Devils owner can't even afford to pay all these stupid contracts Lou is signing for him.
- Isles_since_6

He immediately asked the NHL for an $8.5 million dollar loan

I would be a bit more concerned about your own finances than with ours...we clearly have enough money or loans or whatever to make these signings...you guys seem to be standing pat at like 20+mil below cap

yup. We're positioned not to lose Tavares, Strome, Hamonic, Nelson etc when they come up for big deals. That's one of the reasons I don't mind seeing us spending closer to the floor. I'd be sick if we lost one of them like the Devils did with Parise.

edit* as a side note, the devils have a new building, their owner owns the building, yet they still don't have the cash to fund the team and rather than be responsible about it, they still continue to spend (foolishly, with the contracts they've handed out) near the ceiling and then rely on the NHL and the rest of the owners to hand over cash to help them pay their payroll.

Which team needs to worry about their own finances? Wait, aren't we helping to pay yours?

Grabo is all heart and shows it every shift he plays. He's been an awesome teammate and some team will be very lucky to have him.

We need more of this!!!!

I would love to see Grabovski sign here. I think he would fit on our roster rather nicely.

They had the Clowe contract on a silver platter to rip and they pick Hamonic's contract. That tells you everything.
- ses111

Clowe was not a bad signing, it was a disaster of a signing. The guy had 2 goals last season. NJD are a mess. They should be trying to save money and rebuilding, instead they trade for a goalie who will likely walk in 2 years. (They already have Marty for another year). Time for Luuuu to go. Devils with their payroll will finish in tenth or eleventh next year.

3.8M is good considering today's marketplace. I don't get the fuss. He's a good player. When I saw "long-term deal" I thought it would be more like 5M until I saw the terms.

Are you insinuating that the Islanders conrtibute towards paying the league revenue sharing?

In all seriousness do you really think Clowe is a good deal? I think it may go down to be the worst deal in the past few years. WOrse than Richards

ROFL are you actually thinking that the Devils are just using revenue sharing right now? The NHL has stepped in to help FUND YOUR PAYROLL. This is the same situation as the Phoenix Coyotes, who actually are in a BETTER situation now that they will have an actual owner. You have an actual owner who has run out of funds. This is not revenue sharing, this is the NHL paying for your team.

Good player bad deal. But its not like he's forcing anyone out. We were already top 4 in possession last year (along with LA, Chicago, and Boston) so I think we'll see his numbers improve.
