Ya I was there today as well. And I got to say compared to last year bjugstad and Howden have improved a lot. Matheson is a amazing skater by far the best one there. But I can't wait to see the scrimmage on Friday.

I hope this storm doesn't rain it out. I think Racine is going to be in a Panther uniform before long. He looked AWESOME. Where were you today? I was sitting up front tweeting the entire time. Red jersey, red hat. Sat with some media personnel.

Ya Racine looks like the real deal won't put up many points but will be a solid defensive-Dman but will need a year or 2 in the AHL.

I think I might have seen you but not sure. I was in the warm area. I was wearing a Jovo old school red jersey.

Ya I don't think I saw you. Also do you know if Huby and Barkov will be doing any skating this week? I didn't even see Barkov anywhere but did get to say hi to Huby.

Huberdeau was there yes. He was limping, though. It was pretty noticeable. Barkov was there. He was actually standing on the bench during group two. I don't believe either will be skating this week. If one of them does skate, it will be Barkov.

Really surprised I didn't notice him on the bench. I thought he would've skated today since I heard he was cleared to skate just not to shoot pucks.

It was his choice I think. He can't get hurt/screwed up or we're... screwed.

Well as of right now we are already screwed unless we make a move or 2.

But you are right that is a smart thing to do, no reason for him to get hurt if he isn't a 100%.

There is no way that Barkov will start as a first line center. Even Huby started on 3rd line type minutes with Shore last season. I have been hearing that Bjugstad looks tremendous at camp. That short stint at the end of the season was likely a very good thing to show him what he needs to work on. I would chalk him up as a maybe to make the NHL roster out of camp in the fall.

It is likely that Matthias will get the top line center spot out of the gate and they will let him compete to see if he can keep it. Out of the gate I'd expect the center depth to go:

Matthias, Goc, Barkov, Shore

Which is not to say that I am please about that, but they don't likely have anything else to start the season to alter that. Yes, Barkov will likely make the transition (if all goes well) by midseason to a 2nd line center role, maybe even first. And yes, Bjugstad may make the transition as well by midseason into a 2nd or 3rd line center. Goc belongs at 3rd line.

The good news is that the kids (and all of those names but Goc are indeed kids) will have to compete for a spot and to keep a spot, and that I like. So the names Matthias, Barkov, Shore, and Trochek will all have to fight to earn their lines or NHL time.

We need help at RW. Badly. With Versteeg out we have Kopecky, Crabb and Butler. That's it. Matthias and Howden are both lefties. Mueller is unsigned and they let Skille go. Search the Free agent wire and find a decent right hander and I suspect that's who they are pursuing right now. Brad Boyes may be the best still available.

At camp yesterday and today Bjugstad look ridiculous. He was flying down the ice. Even Tallon had an eye opening moment with him during one drill. He looks amazing. I would line it up the same way as far as the centers go. Matthias better step up. Our success is going to depend on him proving that last season wasn't a fluke.

We do need RW help badly. Boyes I would take in a heart beat. I also like Brunner, Mueller, and Larose.

In another note, Trocheck looked awesome at camp as well. I LOVED Racine.

That's great to hear about Bjugstad. Hopefully I am wrong and he can start the season with the big club, but playing against players at development camp can only tell us so much. I have heard that Trochek is scoring every time he touches the puck and that is great news, it is possible he will also need less developmental time in the AHL as well.
I look at these things by studying Tampa. Hockeyprospectus.com has Tampa rated the best farm system in the NHL right now. But they have been very patient with their prospects. Whether they are ready or not they give them a bunch of time on a very successful AHL team before slowing bringing them up. Conacher was just the first of the bunch that is deep enough he became expendable. It is yet to be seen how their patience ends up with the rest of their young players, but I think it will work well for them as they begin bringing up units of players rather than individuals.
Hope we do the same!

San Antonio is going to be a great place for prospects to develop. In other news, we just re-signed Greg Rallo. Lol.

It's great to think about the future but we've been doing this since 2000.

Teams like Boston have the luxury of bringing a guy up and basically carrying them all the way to the Cup. Krug is his name and that just shows what GREAT organizations do compared to places like Florida who bring up guys in BAD situations only to fail down the road.

It fuccks them mentally too. Horton goes from classless to class and now goes and signs with Columbus? man I guess it was always about money with him, never about winning.

and don't be surprised when Huberdeau is due for a contract extension and the Panthers are too cheap to pay it. they will then pitch yet another rebuild phase and blah blah blah bull shyt.

I've been real disappointed in Goc, with the exception of his first few months after his signing here.
