Not worth it. Stastny's incredibly useless for a rebuild, and he's pretty much the same player as Roy. Waste of an asset in Miller IMO. We should be able to get some young guys and picks instead. - LetsGoBuffalo75
Oh yeah? I think that is what Darcy thought too! Stastny is only 1 year older than TJ Oshie and he's a Center (vs a Wing). Just because he has 1 year left on his deal, he atleast spent the first 3 years of his career scoring a point per game. He would become Buffalo's #1, allowing Hodgson to be the #2 and Ennis back to wing. If he has a good season, Buffalo could spin him off at the deadline for more assets (future youth if that is what you want... Stastny is only 27 now and played for Sacco, as well)... or the Sabres could sign him to an extension.
Miller is not going to re-sign... less teams are likely to need a goalie at the deadline than another Center for their playoff push (most teams in the running for playoffs won't have horrible goaltending). But nearly every team will need another forward. |

You made a good point for people who think we can just trade Miller at the deadline. If teams are buying at the deadline they are likely in or near a playoff position. Generally they would have no need for a rental goalie. |

And for all you know St. Louis could think anything over a 5th round pick is too high. But go ahead, blindly blame it on Darcy. |

If they sign Ryder they are better with he and Eriksson over Seguin and Peverley, plus they got the better prospects. - Pierceme69
Boston did the trade to get better now. I they wanted good prospects they shoulda kept Seguin.
In 2 or 3 years this is going to be the Kassel trade all over again. I already looks like they are giving up on Hamilton.
Eriksson is going to fill the role Horton left (kind of). They still also lost peverly and jagr and Seguin from their forward core and will have to replace them with prospects. Which makes them worse now. B the time those prospects are playing chara is gonna be 100 and their entire team is built around chara being able to play 30 minutes a night.
It no surprise that as Soon as chara started to slow down in the SCF Chicago pushed him and won 3 back to back games. |

Problem is.... draft picks are nothing but potential. The Sabres have had the best "potentially" good team for a decade now. Unfortunately potential does not win Stanley Cups...... |

It is not like he is old as in 30+ he is still young enough and brings a veteran presence to the team. Not to mention the whole being a captain thing. |

Do you guys even know anything about the blues? There are guys taht can be had in a trade, Oshie, Rattie, Schwartz, Shatty, Petro, guys like that are a non starter.
Come back with Perron, Stewart, Cole, Halak, a deal can be worked out.
We dont need a goalie upgrade, It would be nice but our goalie tandem is fine. |

Darcy needs to make a move where he could be perceived as losing a trade for once. - Pierceme69
I don't wanna give him away though either
If Oshie and a 2nd was too much,
Then what was StL prepared to offer?
A 2nd and a 4th?
F*ck that...
If that's the case (or something like it),
Then I will take my chances hanging on to Miller for now
There's no way scrubs like Nabakov end up playing well enough to make those teams feel good about their goaltending going into the playoffs
It's a bit risky,
But if Miller does get hurt & all we miss out on we're a couple of pick then whatever
I'll get over it
I really thought we'd get something decent for him...
Looks like I may have been wrong |

You CANNOT take the chance he is injured at the deadline. If he walks for nothing it's a catastrophe for this team. - Pierceme69
But if the only thing being offered for Miller is crap, is there really any difference between taking a junk trade now and letting Miller walk for nothing? I say the answer is no.
The "Darcy is asking too much for Miller" narrative can just as easily be spun to "No one is offering enough for Miller." What if the latter is true (I'm not saying it is)? Do you still just want to trade Miller because that was the only deal out there?
If there is not a trade for Miller out there right now that actually helps this team for the future, then you hold on to Miller and hope something better becomes available at a later date. Otherwise, you might as well be letting him walk for nothing because you've done just as much to help this team. |
