then why keep vanek and miller

I can see it now, they both get season ending injuries week one
then the team is screwed when they walk for nothing - navinrjohnson
Don't even joke about that
There's still plenty of time before the season starts
I'd think that plenty of teams are interested in Vanek
Miller will be tougher to move,
But still possible
If Philly & the Isles think their goaltending is "set" they're in for a rude awakening |

You CANNOT take the chance he is injured at the deadline. If he walks for nothing it's a catastrophe for this team. - Pierceme69
I need to be reminded how on earth it would be considered a catastrophe?
Freeing up the cap space alone would be worth it to me. |

True,
But if we trade Vanek & Miller I think we will be pretty bad
Won't be able to score consistently
And even if Enroth does well, he'll also likely be inconsistent with it being his first year as a starter - jdfitz77
Here's an idea... Miller and Vanek, packaged together with a second, to SJ or WAS, for a top-line producer (ie: Marleau or Backstrom). |

Vanek - hodge - staff
Foligno - grigo - ennis
Ott - girgensons - leino
Tropp - porter - kaleta
Scott
Ehrhoff pysyk
Myers risto
Weber mcbain
Ruhwefel
If no risto then mcnabb - MillerTime1130
Unless Stafford breaks out of his funk, maybe switch places with Ennis. I think Flynn replaces either Girgensons or Tropp. The D looks pretty spot on. Have a feeling Tropp may start out in Roch. to see how well his knee rehabbed.

Just look at it this way. Game 30 into season Philly is in last place. Panicing they will pay out the butt for Miller. Just gotta hope he is healthy! lol |

I think we were second worst in regulation wins last year and the hockey was almost unwatchable. I dont get our rebuild. A guy like Fillupa would have helped.
Look at Oilers there rebuild has taken forever and they are not close. Its just a bad
gm with no forsight about markets and trade value. Darcy you build with the draft fair trades and dabble in a few free agents and when u want to change the room u get rid of your vocal leaders. Not sit on your hands and talk about how hard the market place was. |

Darcy needs to make a move where he could be perceived as losing a trade for once. - Pierceme69
Well that sure is intelligent thinking.
Chances are, if the deals are that low now that they will be the exact same at the deadline when he will certainly be dealt, so why the rush? |

If we were doing that, I'd want it to be for somone young like Backstrom
Marleau is too old, and won't wanna stay here |

not sure if it's discussed but that ottawa trade was gutsy but good for them. buf equivalent would probably be foligno + pysyk + a 1st. I would probably do that deal, would others? |

This team is rebuilding. They are not gonna be good next season. Probably not the season after.
There is literally no reason to go into the year with Vanek or Miller. We need assets, not only do assets like draft picks help your prospect pool, they also help you aquire players via trade when you are ready to compete. Stockpile the 2nd round picks, if all you can get for Vanek is a prospect and a 14 1st, then take it. |

If TJ Oshie and a 2nd is to high for Miller I wouldn't be rushing out and trading him either but that's just me. Not worried about Vanek, there will be lots of interest in him on a continued basis. - BigStew
IMO, Oshie straight up would be too much for Miller.
I'd throw in a 2nd w/ Miller to get Oshie |

Oshie has missed over 80 games in his short career already, has never scored 20+ goals, never had 60 pts. Miller for Oshie is a win for St.Louis |

If that is what the value for Miller is now then you don't trade him. Oshie may turn out to be more than he is now but he's never scored 20 in a season and has only topped 40 points in a season once (I think anyway).

It sucks being a season ticket holder and hear we are going to try and suck this year. After two years of no playoffs. Its sad but big bucks pegulla only good thing is the statue the team is worse now than along time |

St. Louis already has 3 goalies. Not going to trade a good, young, low cap hit, fan favorite forward just entering his prime for a 4th goalie. |

Darcy never makes that treade though. Darcy would never trade 2 top prospects and a 1st rd pick for a star player. He wouldn't do it. He doesn't have the stones. - truthbluth
Since when is Bobby Ryan a star player? |

vanek can be traded at anytime. teams are interested in him regardless if its now or trade deadline. he's probably more valuable at deadline so i dont see him being moved now. miller on the other hand needs to be moved before the season. then again a team might hate their goaltending situation and make a move before november. |

And when the inevitable Vanek injury occurs right before the deadline because Darcy wanted to squeeze every ounce of value out of him, and he walks for free, all while helping us reach the 6-10 pick in the draft instead of 1-3, then we can again be thankful he "wins" all these trades |

To me, Oshi is much more valuable. A young player on the rise. Miller to me, is somewhat overrated. He is coming off of consecutive mediocre seasons and he is on the wrong side of 30.
I think Miller is being overvalued by Darcy and by some fans. I think the rest of the league is showing us that |

European players are never studs in the NHL.... they play soft Capt...... North American players yes... Europeans.... nope - rapperray
That might be perhaps the most silly statement I have ever read on here.
The list of European players who were studs is so long it's unbelievable. |
