Im glad we arnt making a big play on free agents this year. Theres no need to. Add a good depth guy and i say we are set. - Cheeseballin
Its not just this year, its every year before this its every free agency and trade opportunity missed for the last 15. |

Well said
But the sooner we can get a decent deal for Miller the better
Bc we still wanna finish bad this year & get a top3 pick - jdfitz77
Teams that were going to find a goalie in the FA market weren't interested in Miller because they had the opportunity to work out their own contract and give up no assets. Why would any team trade for a goalie when they had that opportunity?
Now that the FA's are mostly taken, the teams still in need of goalies will come out of the woodwork, IMO. These teams haven't known anything since this has all been determined this afternoon. The teams that missed out on signing these goalies (Nabakov, Emery, Khudobin, none of whom hold a candle to Miller talent wise anyway) are just now able to choose which assets they can afford to give up to obtain a true #1 goalie in Miller.
It's unfortunate that Darcy couldn't get something done before the FA period started, giving him more options to pick someone up, but he didn't really have the upper hand for a deal like that. Someone will pay what Miller's worth, you don't pass up on an opportunity to get a goalie like that into your system.
I don't think anyone needs to panic about these signings. Philly for example... Mason and Emery? One of those guys could be buried in the minors by the second week of the season with that snapcase Holmgren and the insane Philly media. St. Louis, another shaky situation. The Caps are hardly solved in net, and despite a poopty season last year, their contention window is still open a crack. |

Internal salary restrictions set by Golisano etc. Plus who would want to come to Buffalo? Theres many more desirable markets then Buffalo. Just being honest. |

One of my buddies was an assisstant GM in the NHL. He said 90% of the UFA's look for 5 things. 1 thru 4 is $/season, 5 is length of contract. Location has almost nothing to do with it for most of the guys.

Its not only this year, its Brier and Drury, Brad Boyes. Its over valuing and consverativism. Its Zhitnik over Dumont and bringing back Audet. holding unto Connely. Its market didnt materalize. - bflodukes
You mean Kotalik over Dumont? Audette was merely a rental so that's apples to oranges. Connolly had no trade value because of his injury history. |

Luongo's contract is what made him unmarketable. Miller's situation is totally different with only 1 year left. He's pricy, but definitely the best goalie available (and better than the ones that people have been scrambling to sign today). |
