Im sure the non-Darcy people will be all over this, but I dont think there was any way any other team in the league was getting Bobby Ryan today other then the Ottawa Senators.

They were the team with the pieces and mind set to do it, they just lose the face of their franchise overnight, and you have a classic case of a brother helping another brother out.

Sucks that its Ottawa, but this was only happening for them and no other team

- CaptPantalones

I dont want to be acquiring Ryan, I dont see why we are not trying to move Vanek (while retaining half his salary) for something similar to what Ottawa gave (maybe not as much cause of age)

I'll start off by clarifying that I am not advocating letting him walk for nothing as an option. I am saying that making a bad trade for Miller today is just as bad a decision. Here's why:

This is not the last chance the team has to move Miller so just getting something (where something = crap) right now is not better than getting nothing. Making that bad trade is just as bad a decision as letting Miller walk for nothing because you are absolutely foreclosing any chance you have at making a better deal and helping the team.

IF all that's out there today is low picks and/or garbage prospects, then wait. A better deal could possibly emerge as the season progresses that actually helps the team. However, if a better deal doesn't emerge, Darcy will still be able to move Miller for a substantially equivalent package of crap to the one he could have gotten now. Is there a risk involved? Certainly. But I think it's a smart risk to take when you're dealing with an asset of Miller's caliber.

So I do think making a terrible trade for Miller now just for the sake of making the trade is just as bad a decision as letting him walk for nothing. But I don't think the Sabres should let Miller walk for nothing once the trade deadline rolls around.

Of course, my position is based on the hypothetical that the deals out there are crap. I don't know that they are. If Darcy is passing up deals that could help this team because he's not "fleecing" the other team enough, then I'm as pissed as the next guy.

The question we need to ask is why can't we sign or convince free agents to come here? I understand that this years pool of free agents may not be worth the money. But Pegula has stated that the organization has been in on a number of free agents and that they have gone else where. So as owner you ask yourself WHY? New locker roons and work outareas dont cut it. So how this organization is run and who is running it has to be evaluatef. From coaching to the GM and the ability for the organization to WIN. We have been in a constant rebuilding mode since the departure or Brier and Drury. And like Ground Hog Day we the fans relive an endless cycle of missed opportunities and repeated ineptitude. The BS has to stop and Pegula needs to wake from his catonic slumber, change starts at the top and until that change this organization is no better than those second rate teams that existed in Long Island and Columbus. But now even these organizations have passed us as destinations. Since when has Columbus, Long Island and Phoenix become hockey hotbeds, replacing Buffalo. The stagnation at the FNC smells worse than a hot day along the Black Rock Channel. Hockey Heaven or is Buffalo Hockey Purgatory, with players here to do their tinw knowing once done a better fate awaits them. I've loved this team, from the first drop of the puck, but like a bad relationship, I want to move on, but loyalty and devotion prevent me, while frustration tells me I must and I feel that I'm not the only fan who feels this. Terry your about to lose the fans, please do something to move this organization in a new direction.

They "can't" attract free agents to come here because they didn't try, which is exactly what you're supposed to do (or not do) in a rebuild. Staying inactive today is the best move Regier has made all season.
