Probably right. I'm hesitant to book us being a top 2 pick because you really never know what happens during the reg season. Certain players start playing out of their mind and others are huge disappointments.

Why would they be worse? The Sabres drafted 8th overall this year. With a young team, why should we expect the team to do worse UNLESS they deal Vanek and/or Miller?

I'll start off by clarifying that I am not advocating letting him walk for nothing as an option. I am saying that making a bad trade for Miller today is just as bad a decision. Here's why:

This is not the last chance the team has to move Miller so just getting something (where something = crap) right now is not better than getting nothing. Making that bad trade is just as bad a decision as letting Miller walk for nothing because you are absolutely foreclosing any chance you have at making a better deal and helping the team.

IF all that's out there today is low picks and/or garbage prospects, then wait. A better deal could possibly emerge as the season progresses that actually helps the team. However, if a better deal doesn't emerge, Darcy will still be able to move Miller for a substantially equivalent package of crap to the one he could have gotten now. Is there a risk involved? Certainly. But I think it's a smart risk to take when you're dealing with an asset of Miller's caliber.

So I do think making a terrible trade for Miller now just for the sake of making the trade is just as bad a decision as letting him walk for nothing. But I don't think the Sabres should let Miller walk for nothing once the trade deadline rolls around.

Of course, my position is based on the hypothetical that the deals out there are crap. I don't know that they are. If Darcy is passing up deals that could help this team because he's not "fleecing" the other team enough, then I'm as pissed as the next guy.

But neitherof them would have been top 8 in this past years draft...

No way you know that yet. They still have a full season coming up... Rating the next pool of draftable prospects now and thinking its set in stone is insane.

It's a little bit more than that. A lot of people really like Noeseon. He might turn out to be the biggest piece in this trade.

After today would you want to re-sign with the Sabres? Vanek and Miller will be dealt sometime this summer in my opinion. Maybe Vanek sticks around until the deadline, but Miller is gone

I think the Ryan deal helps Buffalos cause.

Now we know what the bar is. Itll be slightly less then what Ryan cost Ottawa. So 2 very good prospects or a good prospect, mid level and a 1
