No, criticizing people for venting frustration over another instance of horrible management of the Buffalo Sabres is absurd. If you are not here to vent with people about what a crap job Darcy does at managing the Sabres, then go somewhere else. That is what we are about here today, and nothing else. - truthbluth
Well thanks Sheriff, I am sorry that I wandered into the wrong area. I must have missed the "lets whine about every single idiotic thing that another team made instead of us" title of the blog. Heads up, the sky is falling. |

To Calgary: Miller and Myers
To Buffalo: 2014 1st, 2015 2nd, Corban Knight, Michael Ferland, 50% Retained salary for both players - Jawallstar1
Done!
Calgary prob still misses the playoffs & those would be decent picks that could help us move up to get Reinhart & McDavid (if we actually would need to move up, haha) |

Yes it does.... If we are rebuilding you do not go into the season with Miller. - OneKaneOneCup
What has Darcy done wrong? Nothing, he does nothing, while every team in our division makes moves to get better. I give up, call me when Casper Milk Toast gets fired. |

What has been so horrible about today? - druryisclutch
Not just today, but today was a chance to get something done. Something to help ignite the rebuild. Trades. Anything. Darcy (frank)ing sucks at his job. If you disagree, provide counter evidence. I believe that he's terrible. I believe that firing Lindy but keeping Darcy was insane. He might be the worst GM in the league. |

Garth's hits are gonna go way down with the number of people who don't care anymore and say they are quitting being a fan of the team. |

So, you're feeling what, excitement about the Sabres? I don't believe that there is any reason for hope in this organization as long as Darcy Regier continues to be the GM. He isn't capable. |

I mean any time this summer. Ever since LeBrun's tweet about St. Louis came out, people misinterpreted it as the window for trading Ryan Miller has completely closed never to re-open again. All St. Louis said is that they "talked". We don't how earnest the discussions were, or if they were simply just a "oh by the way, what are you asking for Ryan Miller?". For all we know, it could have been the equivalent of someone going window shopping and saw a really nice refrigerator, and then discovered it was about $1,000 more than he could afford. |

A couple responses to your points:
For one, I do agree that keeping Darcy was insane, he has been here long enough and missed the playoffs too many times to warrant him staying.
#2, he is still here, and there is nothing we can do to change that. So with that in mind, you dont just go out and do something today just for the sake of doing something, that is not smart either.
#3 Yes, we are in rebuild mode, and the season doesn't start tomorrow, so there's no reason to believe that moves won't be made in the coming weeks once teams re-assess themselves after the initial wave of free agency. |

I think we have looked at this all wrong. Today can be the day we look back on and realize this turned the franchise around. By not doing anything and everyone else making roster improvements we should be awful next season. Top 3 pick. Maybe even 1st overall (but it's Buffalo so we would lose the lottery as draft 2nd). We get a franchise player. Then during Free Agency next year Darcy spends like a mad men and actually makes this team better. If not and we still suck we get another top 3 pick in 2015! It's all good!!! |

But neitherof them would have been top 8 in this past years draft...
Even the years we suck we arent lucky enough to get elite talent |

Having Miller and Vanek pretty much ensures that this won't happen. |

By saying that I am thrilled he hasn't signed anyone today I am neither saying that I am excited about he near future or endorsing Darcy. I can't say that I've seen any move today and thought that I wish we had done it instead. I'd make the Ryan trade 2 years from now but not right now. Everyone else is either old or got waaaaay too much money. |

that AND I got a feeling come late August, Sept 1 of these big spending teams has to trim salary, Buffalo could grab a key player cheap |

I'd want to be on the other side of that trade. Vanek for pick and prospect. That's what I'd like to see today. |
