After this years haul, absolutely - CaptPantalones
You know Capt... I keep reading how everyone here is sooooo impressed by his drafting this year...... I will predict this...... Those 2 "supposed" beasts that he drafted will wind up as #6 or 7 dmen............ Sorry but I am not impressed...... |

89, the point of this season is TO SUCK. Theyve embraced and this is proof.
There not bettering it this year. they already said it. Its about letting kids grow and getting good draft picks.
Trading 3 top prospects for Bobby Ryan spits in the face of all of that. Thats a move you make when your Ottawa, where you have to 1. save fa in the NHLce in the wake of the biggest loss in franchise history, and 2. you have the pieces to do it and he helps restore you to what you were.
Id love Ryan here, but it just wasnt going to happen. This was clearly a case of nepotism at its finest in the NHL - CaptPantalones
why keep miller and vanek then |

Yes, I'd absolutely rather have Silverberg (whose potential is a lot higher than that) over a defenseman who was an absolute disaster last season and is on the hook for 6 more years. Noesen isn't going to be a slug either. - buffalofan19
No his potential isn't really much more than that. He's a 2nd-3rd liner. |

Ray, you will be very very wrong my friend.
Ristolainen is good enough to be the 6-7 D man NOW. Hes going to be a stud and so will Zadorov. Id bet my life on it |

why keep miller and vanek then - hafgod
Im not for keeping Miller. I am Vanek tho |
|
|
|
Capt. I like your opinion. But do u work in the pr dept. for the sabres. The glass is half full today. Really - hafgod
Im wouldnt say its half full, but before today noone wanted any of the available FAs anyway - at least to not overpay for them. I am ok with not signing any FAs today, but I am a bit concerned with the goalie situation.
I cant help but think that they are going to let the market work itself out and see where things land. I would imagine that they are going to talk to agents and see what Miller and Vanek want - or confirm that they are going to test the free-agent market next year if they cant be "extended and traded" somewhere they want to be, and then go from there.
I guess we will see, but I would think that re-building means really re-building - shoot for a top draft pick - dump Vanek and Miller during the year for picks plus - and move on from there... |

Thank you for making my point...... Draft picks are merely potential and I can't count how many drafts I have listened to guys on here boasting how great a player was going to be only to never ever see them in the NHL....... |

You're going to have to admit Capt, this team is not making any progress, you can talk about the draft and the players in the minor's but we are still not making progress. You can't keep saying 2-3 years every year. |

Ristolainen wasn't a reach pick or anything. He was ranked at 8 and picked at 8. He's probably the # 6 defensemen now |

I'm ready to suffer going forward I really am but Miller will just kill this team this season. He will b*&$@ and moan after every game and what kind of a rebuilding atmosphere is that for our young guys? - buffalokb
He has to be moved this offseason... I mean c'mon, the guy sold his house! It's a liability if you wait until the trade deadline. You might get more, less, or worse, he can walk if there's no demand around the league for goaltending.
I'm in a way glad that trade with St. Louis didn't go through based on what we could have gotten back. And the FA market is bad this year, BUT Darcy needs to understand he has to change his tactics. It's his time now to be very risky and stop being conservative. Offer Colorado tons of value for Statsny +... it seems like the only option we have left.
What other franchise out there is still in the market, or possibly in the market, for Miller? |

This year we needed the top 3 pick. Mack or drouin would have been perfect.
Now we get pooptier players. Oh well. It's all ok if we get McDavid. But keeping Vanek and Miller will hurt our chances. Anyway here's a recap
Florida: lost weiss, gained barkov
Tampa: gained drouin and Filippula. Lost vinny L
Detroit: added alfredsson, weiss. Lost Filippula
Ottawa: lost Alfie, traded for Bobby Ryan
Boston: traded Seguin and Pevs for Eriksson and prospect galore. Will be adding more
Toronto: added clarkson, resigned Bozak. Will resign kadri
Montreal: signed briere
Buffalo: Did nothing.
