I'll take this side bet, I like a long shot

Point taken. I'll be back later to make reasonable criticism. I just dont think Flames fans should be rejoicing.

I think "rejoicing" is a bit of an overstatement. Hopefully he's enough to push Butler to the 3rd pairing or off the team.

signed Chris Butler to a 1 year deal worth 1.7 mill... and D - Chad Billins to a 2-way deal . . .

"We had no interest in inheriting a salary arbitration...that's why we did the sign and trade." Feaster

Reason for not picking him up on waivers.

Where's that a$$ wipe now...

Edit: actually that's probably an insult to toilet paper.

Loving the name calling from flames fans!

Been one for a long time, seen a lot of waiver pick ups and a whole lot less of these mess ups.

So what team are you so proud to cheer for, you know, since you don't display it and trash talk us.

Yet they still signed him for a 1 year deal, and he likely would have gotten the about the same money on arbitration. Just a cop out of a response. For a team that has plenty of money and salary cap room, this isn't worth a draft pick when you should be rebuilding.

How is that relevant to anything? I'm a Flames fan, I can be critical of them. Maybe if more fans were they would stop pulling such terrible moves.

I love that these are all minor depth moves that have no substantial impact on the rebuild, thus keeping the flexibility needed to move onwards and upwards.

Not taking a single overpaid FA today is great. Wonder if they are still in on Grabs or if he will go to St. Louis. If not, it's fine, maybe make a trade near the deadline.

I agree that is a good move to not over pay today. Too many huge long term contacts that could handcuff the flames in a few years after the rebuild is hopefully done, or create an inability to later move these players for assets to complete the rebuild. To that, I will give props to Feaster.

Be critical, sure. But don't be dumb and ignorant. Instead of just spotting off, which you have to know is going to rile everyone up, especially if they don't know who you cheer for, maybe ask"why."

Just saying. There is usually a reasonable explanation for these matters. If there isnt one, then start calling Feaster et al idiots.

Now that Ryder AND Elias AND Clowe have signed...is Henrique able to be matched on an offer sheet? I know Todd said earlier they will match, but can they still, logistically?

If I was a Flames fan Id already be getting tired of his half-assed explanations for confusing moves. No matter in all honesty though, Russell would have gotten roughly the same in arbitration.

What confusing moves? I see none. Who cares about a 5th to avoid arbitration.

Do they think they got a good deal by avoiding salary arbitration ? This is a player who was a healthy scratch down the stretch. They need to be accumulating picks not throwing them away. This makes no sense to me.

That, O'Reilly, odd draft choices. I dunno. He confuses me.I wonder what his direction is.

Ice a bigger, younger team full of reclamation projects and hope a couple turn out right, and can in turn be kept in the fold for the continuing rebuild. While staying competitive and not pulling a Sutter on the cap.
My general guess.

Avoided arb, picked up on the low, signed a 1 yr contract. He gets playing time in CGY,maybe plays well and maybe you flip him at the DL for a 2nd. Sounds just fine to me.

If Calgary can get a 5th for Blake Comeau.... just about anything in this world is possible.

I think New Jersey would be able to match, even if it puts them over the cap. I don't know for sure. I'm guessing based on the fact that the flyers were over the cap when they signed Emery. There is probably a deadline to be under the cap.
