Yes, but the Canucks enjoyed cap benefits from the early years of Luongo's contract and have not (would not be able to) pay that savings back, hence the cap circumvention. I haven't found anything in the current CBA that allows for a team and player to void an existing SPC, if you can find such a statement I would be happy to read it.

You can't void guaranteed contracts , can you?

I dunno... Might be the best thing that could happen.

I'm probably the only person who thinks this (what's new?), but I'll take $5.33 million in cap space and Lack/Eriksson behind a Torts defensively accountable shot blocking system ahead of a mentally fragile & uncommitted Luongo any day.

If it came to that I'm sure there would be a better option still out there than two rookies, but agreed, I just don't see Luongo as a good option moving forward.

#Predators sign Matt Hendricks. #Canucks were said to be in the running.

Why would a FA want to come here.

- VANTEL

You have it wrong. It says the Canucks didn't want him, not the other way around.

I meant Lack OR Eriksson... One of them would be getting the bulk of work in Utica... Sign a vet for cheap as a backup (Thomas 1yr).

They'd probably have to trade for Miller or Hiller if they didn't want to go with 2 rookies.

And they'd get bent over the table again because they weren't trading from a position of strength... again.

I do not believe that an NHL SPC can be voided unless it is by the NHL/NHLPA for extreme reasons. I haven't found any specific language in the CBA to support this, but I also haven't found any to contradict it.

There has been so much madness in the Luongo situation I do not believe that the NHL would ever let this contract go away without a buyout taking place.

Well for once we agree, you know what, I'd take a flyer on Lack and an NHL back up/vet for the year. Would we be better with Lu, sure. But if some of the other teams can make the playoff with non-allstar goaltenders, so can we.

Plus it would rid the team of the distraction.

Oh, I see, yes, there's plenty of guys with NHL experience that could come in and contribute with one or the other of the rookies.

I doubt MG would go for a Miller or Hiller type, more like a Huet or even a Hasek

Don't think that changes anything. Gilman is more economics and lacks hockey knowledge (not that Gillis has any)... They'd still collaborate on every decision.

Maybe they'd allow it to happen but take away the Canucks last buyout?

How did Gordon get 3 mil per year? Wow. Bad signing by Edmonton.
